With Critical Situations, you take control of the pitcher late in the inning to make your mark on the game without the need to play full games. The game also now asks you to play games when there are statistically important systems.
With Quick Manage you can bounce back and forth between managing the game and playing games so that you can take control of the game and still control the outcome on the field.
Another interesting option is to use Player Lock. This lets you play short Road to the Show type games inside of Franchise Mode.
