Which MLB the Show 19 edition should I buy is a common question from players looking at the new installment of the best baseball video game of the year. There are four different MLB The Show 19 editions including one that you can only get at GameStop.

The MLB the Show 19 editions range from the base game for $59.99 on disc or digital to the Digital Deluxe and the Gone Yard editions that are both $99.99. When you pay more for a premium MLB The Show 19 edition you get a lot of extra DLC and bonus items.

When you pre-order any of the MLB The Show 19 editions you get 10 Standard Packs, 5,000 Stubs and 1 Gold Player Choice Pack, but if you want to get a boost when you start and save on buying the items post release you get a lot more. Here’s a rundown of the MLB The Show 19 editions;

  • MLB The Show 19 MVP Edition – $69.99

Most casual gamers will be well served with the base version of the game. If you are a major fan of this game and you need more stubs and in-game items to get an edge right from the opening pitch, you should skip the MVP Edition and go straight to the Digital Deluxe or Gone Yard editions.

MLB The Show 19 Base Edition – $59.99

The base version of the game is available on disk or digital and you can get it for $59.99 at almost any store that sells video games. This is the best option for the average gamer looking to get into a fun baseball sim without worrying about spending a lot of money post release to build up your team.

In the past this has been the version I bought, because I wanted a fun, up to date baseball game without diving into all the management and team building aspects. You can always buy packs later if you decide you want to invest more in the game, but you will spend more if you buy all the bonuses later in the game’s life.

MLB The Show 19 MVP Edition – $69.99

If you want to upgrade and get some extra items right out of the gate for just $10 more. This includes the base game as well as the following bonus items;

  • 6,000 Stubs
  • 1 Prestige Gear Up Choice Pack
  • Choose 1 of 30 Diamond Flashbacks
  • 10 Standard Packs
  • 30 Custom Avatars
  • Choose 1 Classic Stadium

You can get this on disc at most retailers. It’s an OK value since you are getting about $6 worth of Stubs and an array of other items, but if you are really looking for the maximum value, you’ll want to look at the other editions. This feels like an option only to give you another choice that pushes you up to the $99.99 versions of MLB The Show 19.

MLB The Show 19 Digital Deluxe Edition – $99.99

The best value in terms of extras is the Digital Deluxe edition that is only available through the PlayStation Store. This $99.99 version of MLB The Show 19 includes the following items;

  • 15,000 Stubs
  • 1 Prestige Gear Up Choice Pack
  • Choose 1 of 30 Diamond Flashbacks
  • 1 Ballin is a Habit Pack
  • 30 Standard Packs
  • 30 Custom Avatars
  • Choose 1 Classic Stadium
Stubs are about 99 cents per 1,000 and you get enough other items here that you may find enough items in the mix to make this the best version for you. Hardcore MLB The Show 19 fans should consider this or the Gone Yard edition.

MLB The Show 19 Gone Yard Edition – $99.99

The Gone Yard edition at GameStop includes a nice mix of digital and physical extras.

The Gone Yard edition at GameStop includes a nice mix of digital and physical extras.

The MLB The Show Gone Yard edition is a GameStop exclusive that includes most of the same upgrades as the Digital Deluxe, but you also get a real special edition hat and you get a Gone Yard Steel Book as well.

  • 15,000 Stubs
  • 1 Prestige Gear Up Choice Pack
  • Choose 1 of 30 Diamond Flashbacks
  • 20 Standard Packs
  • 30 Custom Avatars
  • 1 Diamond Dynasty New Era Hat (digital)
  • Choose 1 Classic Stadium
If you like collectibles and you don’t want the Habit pack, this is the edition to buy. You have to go with a disc that you will swap in and out, which is a trade-off, but it may be worth it.

MLB The Show 19 Disc or Digital?

With MLB The Show 19 you can buy the base game and the MVP edition on disc or digital, but the more expensive options are split between digital or disc. Thankfully the options are pretty close, so you don’t need to give up much to get your favorite option.

With the digital editions you no longer need to swap discs, which is a major plus if you switch between a few games each time you play. This method also lets you pre-load so that you can start playing immediately on the release date.

The upside to the physical version is that you can share it with a friend if they want to try the game out or you can sell it if you decide to move on to something else. This isn’t a huge reason if you want the more expensive edition, since you won’t be able to sell the digital extras and you won’t get a lot for a sports game once the initial release is done.
