Published

on

Last month when Google announced the brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop update many manufacturers promised quick updates, and that included Motorola. While Google’s yet to push the latest Android 5.0 to many Nexus devices, Motorola is already preppring to release the new software to its latest smartphones.

Today the company has just confirmed the new Moto G (2014) Android 5.0 Lollipop update is officially rolling out right now, and the same can be said for the Moto X Pure Edition. Earlier this week we saw the usual Motorola “soak tests” or final beta testing for both of these devices, but starting today it’s rolling out to all users.

Last year Motorola was the first to Android 4.4 KitKat delivering the update within two weeks of the announcement on October 31st, and they look to be the first again with Android 5.0 Lollipop for at least two brand new smartphones, with more coming before the end of the week. Read on for more details.

The new Moto G (2014) was announced and released in early September, building on the success of the Moto G released in 2013 that managed to be the companies most successful smartphone release to date. The Moto G is a well-rounded and extremely impressive Android smartphone all for $179, contract free.

Today Motorola announced the global and US variant of the new Moto G is getting Android 5.0 Lollipop starting today, but that it will be rolling out in phases. This means you may have received it this morning, but you could have a few days wait as the rollout is slowly seeded to all users in an effort to make sure no problems arise.

Motorola has also confirmed the new Moto X 2014 model (only the Pure Edition) is also getting Android 5.0 Lollipop today, and users can expect it to arrive soon. Most likely the carrier variants of each device are waiting for final approval from each respective carrier, but we expect those to also arrive before the end of the week, or early next week.

Android 5.0 Lollipop builds on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat, but delivers a completely revamped and much improved experience. Users can expect some bold new colors, neat animations, smooth effects and graphics, as well as improved performance, battery life, and more. There’s tons of new stuff with Android 5.0 Lollipop, and Motorola mentions a few in its blog post.

Android 5.0 delivers a guest or kids mode for multi-user accounts, battery saver mode, a redesigned look and feel, and a completely revamped notifications system with advanced controls for do-not-disturb options and more. This is only a few of the changes, and you’ll be able to enjoy them all on your own Moto G and Moto X starting today.

Again, no details have been announced regarding specific carriers for the Moto X or Moto G 2014 models, or the variants last year, but Motorola is on a roll and we expect them to receive updates in the near future. Stay tuned for more details as everything is just hitting the wire.
