While previous Motorola X Phone rumors painted the device out to be a potential beast of a smartphone, the latest Motorola X Phone rumors suggest that a much more modest and realistic device could be coming from both Google and Motorola later this year.
In the past, the Motorola X Phone has been rumored to be the mythical Motorola superphone that many Android enthusiasts and Motorola fans have been waiting for since Google purchased Motorola back in 2012.
However, expectations of the X Phone were tempered when a Google executive claimed that the company was still working through Motorola’s pipeline of devices and said that while Motorola’s lineup of devices, both current and future are good devices, they aren’t ‘wow’ by Google’s standards. He did not mention the X Phone by name but his comments certainly put a damper on the previous rumors.
Today, a new report has issued new possible rumors in regards to the upcoming X Phone and they point to a more realistic smartphone, and certainly not the superphone that many may have been expecting.
AusDroid claims that a reliable source has told them that the X Phone will feature some high-end specifications including a 5-inch or 4.7-inch 1080p display, a 10MP camera in the rear and possibly a 5MP camera in the front, and a dual-core processor from Qualcomm.
These specifications seem to point to a more modest X Phone than some previous rumors have suggested. There is no talk of software, we imagine it will be Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at the very least, or a release date, which is thought to be taking place after an announcement at Google I/O in May.
The rumor also suggests that Motorola is going to be very select in where the device is offered with countries seemingly need to commit to a 25,000 unit buy-in before a release. This could mean that the release of the X Phone might be limited though we imagine that Verizon, at the very least, will carry it given its past with Motorola.
We have theorized that the X Phone, instead of a superphone, could be the last device from Motorola’s old pipeline which could possibly mean it’s the long-awaited Droid X3, though that remains unconfirmed.
