In June, Google rolled out a trio of Android updates including Android L Beta, Android 4.4.3 Kitkat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat. While the Android L update isn’t expected to hit the public until later this year, the Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates are currently hitting users on HTC, Motorola and Sony devices all over the globe.
HTC and Sony are pushing out Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates which include Android 4.4.3 KitKat’s bug fixes and the security patch that Google pushed out with its Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. HTC on the other hand is doing the exact opposite. The company is current pushing out Android 4.4.3 KitKat with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat security patch on board. And while the update remains limited, it looks like another HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat release is imminent.
HTC’s Mo Versi confirmed that the company received technical approval from T-Mobile on Friday. What this means is that the update should be rolling out at some point in the near future, perhaps today, though Versi does not outline a specific date for HTC One M8 users on T-Mobile. When the update does roll out, it will join Sprint’s HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update that rolled out back in July.
@Joey_D_Netsfan We received technical approval from T-Mobile on Friday. Expect the update shortly. Thanks!

These two won’t be the only Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates that roll out to HTC One owners. HTC expects to receive approval for the AT&T HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update in mid-August. It’s still not clear when the company expects to get approval for the Verizon HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update.
In addition to HTC One Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates, the company is expected to push out HTC One M7 Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates before the Android L update emerges from hiding later on this year. HTC still hasn’t confirmed a time frame for the HTC One M7 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update in the U.S. though with a massive push expected to begin this month, it’s possible that we’ll see the company start pushing in August.
For the moment, the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 are the only HTC devices getting Android 4.4.3 KitKat. The company hasn’t confirmed the update for any other devices. With an Android L update from Google in the works for later this year, it’s possible that HTC will simply opt to skip Android 4.4.3 KitKat for other devices and move right into Android L.
HTC is just one of a few manufacturers making a strong push to deliver Android 4.4.2 KitKat bug fixes to customers. Motorola and Sony are in the midst of massive Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll outs, roll outs that have already landed for many of their big name smartphones. Motorola and Sony are also expected to make a strong push during the month of August, ahead of Android L.
There are, however, several companies that remain inactive. LG and Samsung, for instance, have yet to confirm any Android 4.4.3 KitKat or Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade details to their customers. Rumors pointed to Android 4.4.3 KitKat upgrades for the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 though the company is still rolling out Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates to users in the United States and elsewhere around the world.
LG and Samsung also remain silent about upcoming Android L updates, HTC has confirmed Android L for its HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 within 90 days of Google’s public release. The Android L release is expected to arrive sometime later this year, possibly in the fourth quarter alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet and a new Nexus 6 smartphone from Motorola.
