It was back in November 2011 that the infamous @DroidLanding account sent out its last tweet. Today, that Twitter account reactivated itself teasing prospective smartphone shoppers with something new, perhaps a new phone, perhaps something else.

The @DroidLanding Twitter account, which in the past has offered information and contests for Verizon’s Droid-branded devices sprung back to life today suddenly with a vague tweet hinting at something upcoming in the future.

The DroidLanding Twitter account is back.

The account, which has been dormant since November of 2011, around the time of the Droid Bionic and Droid RAZR launches, says that it has been reactivated, that its systems are close to operational status and that consumers should stand by for further information in regards to its tweet.

Unfortunately for those interested, there isn’t much to go on. Verizon has a slew of rumored devices upcoming and it’s also possible that it could be for a contest for an already announced Droid device or something else entirely. Here is the tweet:

If it is a new Droid smartphone, there are many candidates including the HTC One, HTC Butterfly S, Moto X and Galaxy S4 Mini. It’s also possible that it could be something new from either LG or Huawei, the latter of which showed off its Ascend P6 flagship today. It’s impossible to say at this point but those would be the front-runners for Verizon’s Droid branding.

The most logical choice though is the Moto X considering it’s coming from Motorola, the company that is mostly responsible for the Droid-brand. We’ve seen other devices from HTC and Samsung but a majority of the big name devices have come from Motorola. It’s also possible that HTC and Verizon could re-brand the HTC One as the Droid One or perhaps call the Galaxy S4 Mini something Droid related.

The HTC One is scheduled to hit Verizon this summer.

It’s also possible that it could be related to a contest or deal on an official device.

At this point, speculation is likely to rule though we suspect that we will find out for sure what the @DroidLanding Twitter account is up to in the days ahead.

Update: The @DroidLanding account has sent out another tweet claiming to be going into scavenge mode. The company has also posted a video today, which it linked to on the @DroidLanding Twitter page, touting its new Droid game that will be coming to Android soon. The video can be seen below.
