All signs point to a Nexus 5 launch date in October with LG heavily rumored to be making the new Nexus smartphone that will come to replace the already discontinued LG-made Nexus 4. And given that Google typically releases its Nexus devices only a few days after they launch, the Nexus 5 release date should be close as well.
Nexus 5 rumors have been swirling in recent weeks and from the looks of things, consumers are closer than ever to a Nexus 5 launch alongside Android 4.4 KitKat, the operating system that Google announced earlier this month.
Thanks to leaks, we know that LG is likely one of the manufacturers behind the new Nexus smartphone as FCC filings and photo leaks have shown a new Nexus with the LG logo plastered on the back. The device is thought to have an improved camera, Snapdragon 800 processor and a 1080p display, all upgrades from the Nexus 4.
Rumors have suggested, all along, that the Nexus 5 launch date is in October and today, a new report from Digitimes backs that release date timing up.
Digitimes isn’t always a reliable source but it has gotten information correct in the past. It claims that supply chain sources have indicated that the Nexus 5 is likely to be made by LG, something that leaks have revealed, and that the device should be arriving at some point in October, possibly on October 14th as rumors have suggested.
The report claims that the device will be “available” in October, hinting at its release date and claims that the device will target the “mid-range.” Google’s Nexus 4 came with an extremely cheap unlocked price tag starting at $299. That price tag was only one if its attractive features and it’s one that helped lead the Nexus 4 into a complete sell out.
It’s still not clear how much the Nexus 5 will cost but the fact that it may have LTE and a 1080p display, the latter of which are not cheap, it could be that it commands a steeper price tag than the Nexus 4. Google upped the price of the Nexus 7 by $20 when it was released earlier this year.
Rumors have also suggested a Nexus 5 from Motorola but that device still has not shown its face.
Given the rumors, given the fact that the Nexus 4 is now sold out permanently and given all of the credible leaks that we’ve seen, it’s becoming quite clear that a Nexus 5 is imminent and at this point, all signs are pointing to an October launch date, just a few weeks after the arrival of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C from Apple.
