Nexus 5X vs Galaxy S6: Price

Nexus 5X vs Galaxy S6: Price

Last but certainly not least, and very important, is the price tag. Google has always delivered phones at an affordable price, not counting 2014, and the new Nexus 5x is no exception. It's a great all-around smartphone, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Here are the pricing details for those interested.

  • Nexus 5X 16GB - $379 from the Google Store
  • Galaxy S6 32GB - $584 outright from AT&T

Pricing varies from carrier to carrier, but after recent cuts the Galaxy S6 from most carriers is under $600. The 32GB Nexus 5X is $429, making it roughly $150 cheaper than the Galaxy S6. Two months ago the Galaxy S6 was well over $600, making this a different story, but they've recently lowered the price and made it more affordable.

However, the Nexus 5X isn't sold by carriers, which means there are no 2-year agreements, monthly payments plans (unless you use Project Fi) and owners will have to buy it outright. Compared to the Galaxy S6 which can be bought on contract, or with $24-29 per month payment plans. We do need to state that the Nexus 5X won't be in carrier stores, but will work with all US carriers. That means Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and smaller regional carriers. It's unlocked, and supports almost every network band on the market.

All said and done, the Galaxy S6 is a great phone for a good price, but for nearly the same great experience, stock Android, and what should offer better battery life buyers could save around $150 or more. It's a tough call, but both Samsung and LG are tried and true, and make great phones with the Nexus from Google, and Samsung's Galaxy S6.

We'll let you decide. I use the Note 5 myself, and bought the Nexus 6P as well, as I enjoy the bigger display. Those who want something smaller have a tough choice to make.
