Nexus 7 2: Buyers Should Know the Release Date Soon

Published

on

The Nexus 7 2, or at least a device thought to be the Nexus 7 2, has passed another roadblock on its way with the Asus K009 passing another certification, a sign that a Nexus 7 2 launch could be imminent.

While it is still unconfirmed, the Asus K009 and Asus K008 are thought to be upcoming variants of the Nexus 7 2, also known as the new Nexus 7 or the Nexus 7 HD. Both have passed through various hands on their way to release with an FCC filing for the K009 revealing the device to be a Nexus. Asus customer service representatives also have started referring to the K009 as a Nexus ahead of an actual launch.

A new report claims the new Nexus 7 will arrive in July.

The Nexus 7 2, or at least the device that is thought to be the Nexus 7 2, has passed another certification.

Rumors suggest that the Nexus 7 2, possibly alongside the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, will be out in July and thus far, all signs are pointing to something happening soon.

Recently, the Asus K009 passed through a Radio Research Agency (RRA) certification, affiliated with Korea’s version of the FCC, on its way to shelves. This of course is necessary prior to the device’s release and it’s yet another sign that the K009, which again is likely the Nexus 7 2, is well on its way towards a release date.

The filing, first spotted by Blog of Mobile, depicts a device that is supporting LTE bands, though it doesn’t reveal much more than that. The device is thought to be heading to the LTE networks of AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States with Verizon also a possibility. Asus’ K008 is thought to be the Wi-Fi only variant of the Nexus 7 2.

The devices are both expected to have 7-inch displays with 1,900 x 1.200 resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 5MP camera in the rear, front-facing camera and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, not Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. It is also supposed to come in a 32GB configuration at least, with a 16GB Nexus 7 2 also being likely.

With no Google event lined up for July, it’s unclear when it might be making an announcement, but from the looks of things, the new Nexus 7 appears to be making the proper preparations for its launch. And with Google typically announcing release dates in its device announcements, we should see the Nexus 7 2 release date soon.
