OnePlus 6 vs LG G7: Specs

When it comes to choosing a phone another important thing is specs. How powerful and future-proof a phone is. Last year the LG G6 arrived with an old and outdated processor, and less RAM, and instantly lost to the competition. That's not the case this year. In fact, the LG G7 ThinQ is a top-tier phone across the board.

LG G7 Specs (Official)

  • 6.1-inch 3120 x 1440 Quad-HD Full-Vision LCD Display
  • 8-Core Snapdragon 845 Processor with 4GB of RAM (same as Galaxy S9)
  • 64GB storage with microSD expansion
  • Android 8.0 Oreo with LG UI and AI 2.0
  • 16-Megapixel f/1.6 main camera, 16 MP f/1.9 wide-angle lens
  • 8-Megapixel front selfie camera
  • Hi-Fi Quad DAC, Boombox Speaker, Google Assistant button, FM Radio
  • 3,000 mAh battery with fast and wireless charging
  • IP68 Water & dust resistant, USB Type-C
  • Platinum Gray, Black, Blue, and Rasberry Rose Gold color options

That's nice and all, but the OnePlus 6 matches it, or beats it, for less money.

OnePlus 6 Specs (Rumored)

  • 6.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display (or 1080p)
  • Snapdragon 845 Processor with 6-8GB of RAM (Same processor as S9)
  • 64 or 128GB of storage, no microSD slot, potentially a 256GB option
  • 12MP and secondary 20MP rear cameras with an f/1.7 aperture, and more
  • 16MP front-facing selfie camera
  • Android 8.1 Oreo (or Android P beta)
  • Rear fingerprint scanner, Fast Face Unlock, more
  • 3,500 mAh battery with fast Dash Charging (or 3,300 mAh again)
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack, BT 5.0, NFC, 4G LTE, alert slider
  • more

As you can see these are two very similar smartphones across the board. We are hearing the OP6 might have a bigger screen. Then, you'll get the option for more storage, you have a different camera setup, and the OP6 can try Android P ahead of the August release date.

The biggest thing for me, personally, is the bigger battery in the OnePlus 6. That's important and makes a big difference. LG really dropped the ball on that one.

5 Reasons to Wait for the Galaxy S21 & 5 Reasons Not To

Wait for a Smaller or Non-Existent Punch Hole

Wait for a Smaller or Non-Existent Punch Hole

The Galaxy S20 series features a punch-hole on the display. The Galaxy S21 may not.

The vice president of Samsung’s R&D group, Yang Byung-duk, says the company plans to do away with the punch-hole, but that the move will take a few years.

Before this happens, the company plans to reduce the size of the punch-hole on upcoming devices so that it's barely visible.

A report from MyDrivers, citing South Korean sources, claims Samsung's working to release a "perfect full screen" experience where the front-facing camera is hidden until it's needed.

The Galaxy S20 series doesn't have an under the display camera, but the technology could make its debut on an upcoming phone like the Galaxy S21.

According to leaker Ice Universe, Samsung is thinking about using under-the-screen camera technology on the Galaxy S21.

He claims the company is currently "evaluating the feasibility of the technology" which means that while possible, it's far from guaranteed.

In a more recent tweet, Ice Universe says that while "Samsung Display's under-screen camera solution is much ahead of other solutions, the company has "stricter requirements for under-screen camera effects than other brands."

That said, Analyst Ross Young, who has accurately predicted information in the past, doesn't think the Galaxy S21 will have an under panel display.

If you aren't a huge fan of the company's punch-holes, and you're interested in a "perfect full screen" experience, think about waiting for potential design changes on next year's models.
