Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Release Date, Feature, Design and Spec Rumor Roundup

With Samsung gearing up to introduce a new Galaxy product on August 15th, rumors are swirling about a possible launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a follow-up to Samsung’s original 5.3-inch phablet.

While Samsung has yet to confirm anything, we already have a good idea about the Galaxy Note 2 as possible launch dates and features leaked to the surface several times over the last few months.

It’s clear that there is a huge demand for a device with the Galaxy Note’s specifications and size and it seems that the Galaxy Note 2 will improve on the original Galaxy Note in many areas.

That being said, let’s look at the latest rumors and speculation about the Galaxy Note 2 and its upcoming launch.

The Galaxy Note 2 could launch on August 15th.

Galaxy Note 2 Release Date

Thus far, we still don’t have a specific release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. In fact, there are conflicting reports about when Samsung is going to be announcing the next-generation phablet.

Prior to today, the Galaxy Note 2 seemed destined for a launch at IFA 2012 in Berlin. Both August 30th and August 31st were both rumored to be possible launch dates for the Galaxy Note 2. Samsung used IFA as a launch pad for the original Galaxy Note and we assumed, based on that and the rumored dates, that IFA was going to be the place that Samsung would introduce the new device.

Last week though, Samsung announced that it would be revealing a new, major Galaxy device on August 15th, just ahead of IFA. At first, smart money seemed to be best placed on a launch of the Galaxy Note 10.1, which surfaced again today, or the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q.

However, today, a rumor surfaced indicating that Samsung is gearing up to announce the Galaxy Note 2 at the event in the U.S. on August 15th. The report says it’s confirmed but Samsung has not yet said anything official.

Those looking to get the Galaxy Note 2 in the U.S. may have to wait though. Last year, the Galaxy Note didn’t arrive on AT&T until several months after the device’s official announcement.

Galaxy Note 2 Form Factor

The Samsung Galaxy Note has been rumored to be coming with a design that is like that of the Samsung Galaxy S III which just hit shelves in the United States. If true, it would likely mean that the device will be made of plastic and will feature rounded curves.

Samsung has said that the Galaxy S III form factor was inspired by nature and it could be that it will use the same kind of motif for the Galaxy Note 2.

The design of the Galaxy Note 2 is supposedly going to be thin though it’s unclear just how much thinner the device might be from the original Note which checked in with a form factor that measured 9.7mm.

Galaxy Note 2 Screen

Today’s release date leak also came with further confirmation of the device’s screen size.

The Galaxy Note 2 might have a 5.5-inch display.

In the past, we’ve heard that Samsung will be including a 5.5-inch display on the Galaxy Note 2, up from the 5.3-inch display that’s found on the original Samsung Galaxy Note. We’re hearing that again today.

Benchmarks have all but confirmed the screen’s resolution as 1280×720 which means that it will likely sport HD resolution, something that its predecessor did not have on board.

Galaxy Note 2 Specs

As for the rest of the specifications, things are a little murky but the benchmarks did seem to confirm that a quad-core Exynos processor, the Exynos 4412, will be on board clocked at 1.6GHz.

Those benchmarks also pointed to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as being the on board operating system though we imagine that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be on the final version of the device that arrives on shelves.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has also been rumored to have 1.5GB of RAM, a 12MP or 13MP rear camera, and quite possibly, 4G LTE data speeds.

Unless they’re going for a launch across carriers the way that they did for the SIII, Samsung and AT&T can stuff it. I tried AT&T after a 2 year break from previous service so that I could get the first Note… that lasted a week. I’ll never chase a device across carriers again.

i’m sure at&t is crushed by your decision to leave. bankruptcy on the way. do you generally only try new things for a week then give up? i, and millions of others, have had great success with at&t. so sorry you did not. loser. next time call whine-1-1.

I have been an att customer for many years. As a result I cannot say if other carriers are better but I can say that att sucks in terms of data speeds, area of network and ability to connect via phone and data. I cant be sure if other carriers are better or worse and this is the reason I simply have not left. That and I am grandfathered in for unlimited data at this point.

What? 1280×720 is POORER than last year’s Note!
    The first note had 1280×800!

I was wishing for Note2 to get 1920×1080.

it will have better resolution. Obviously they won’t have the next generation with worse specs. It’;s supposed to be a similar screen to the Samsung Galaxy S3

I don’t have the Samsung Galaxy Note but really want one, I was waiting for the Note 2 now. My question is that I noticed that the charge port is also the HDMI port so you cant charge and use the HDMI cable at the same time, will this be true of the Note 2? I may have been miss informed when i was told that you could use a mini HDMI on the Note but just trying to find out all the facts. Also will the Note 2 have a removable battery or be like the dread Iphone blahhhhh?

I didn’t mean charge with a HDMI cable, just that the port was used for both.

U use the Mhl adaptor to project to a television. U plug the adaptor in, so it charges while projecting….
Even tho my Note discharges faster than it charges. With everything else off; screen turned all the way down…

In my opinion, the best make of phone. It’s so much easier to use because of the large screen.
