Samsung Galaxy Note 2 U.S. Launch: Everything We Think We Know

Published

on

At the end of August, Samsung announced the new 5.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phablet. And while the company showed off all of its features and announced release windows for several regions including the United States. However, it failed to reveal several of the things customers in the United States were looking for, namely, carriers and release dates. In recent days though, several leaks have sprouted indicating that Samsung has big plans for the Galaxy Note 2 in the United States.

The company announced that the Galaxy Note 2, the follow-up to the original Galaxy Note smartphone which debuted on AT&T, would be heading to some regions in October of this year and the U.S. at some point later on this year.

In true Samsung fashion, it gave no specifics, it failed to reveal any launch carriers and it did not establish pricing.

As expected though, the U.S. Galaxy Note 2 launch has not been short on leaks and it appears that Samsung may be planning to launch the Galaxy Note 2 on five of the United States’ biggest carriers, a list that includes AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and U.S. Cellular.

Here, we take a detailed look at everything we know thus far about the Galaxy Note 2 for each individual carrier in an attempt to give interested customers a better look at what to expect from Samsung later this year.

AT&T Galaxy Note 2

It’s fairly certain that the carrier which originally hosted the Galaxy Note on its 4G LTE network will be getting the Galaxy Note 2 at some point down the road, maybe even first.

We have seen several leaks in regards to a possible AT&T Galaxy Note 2 but none bigger than the rumor that the AT&T Galaxy Note 2 will launch on October 21st.

Thus far, that’s the only specific release date for a U.S Galaxy Note 2 that we’ve seen and it could mean that the United States will see the Galaxy Note 2 in October as well.

AT&T will likely replace the original Note with the Note 2.

In addition, we’ve seen a device called the SGH-I317 pop up twice, once in a benchmark and once in a software screenshot, and the SGH-I317 is looking like it could be the Galaxy Note 2 for AT&T.

The features for the SGH-I317 mirror those of the Galaxy Note 2 that was announced in August, including 1280 x 720 screen resolution, the same found on the Galaxy Note 2, a reference to the device’s Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system which is the same OS found on the Galaxy Note 2, and a 1.6GHz processor. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 uses a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.6GHz.

Sprint Galaxy Note 2

In the past few weeks, Sprint’s Galaxy Note 2 has leaked out extensively as well though no specific release date is known at this time.

Thus far, the leaks suggest that the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 will be identical to the international version in that it will feature a quad-core Exynos processor, 4G LTE data speeds, and a 5.5-inch display.

The Sprint Galaxy Note 2 moved closer to launch last week.

One thing that’s unique to the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 was that it was found passing through a Wi-Fi certification last week, a sign that both and an announcement and a release are on the horizon.

In any event, it looks like Sprint is a shoo-in to get the Galaxy Note 2 on its new 4G LTE network.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2

While T-Mobile continues to dodge questions about its plans for the original Galaxy Note, it has become clear that the carrier will be offering the new Galaxy Note 2 at some point in the future.

The T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 looks like it will arrive with the model number SGH-T889, the same model number that we saw pop up in a screenshot earlier in September that seem to confirm the T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note 2′s existence.

The Galaxy Note 2 is likely heading to T-Mobile.

That screenshot also confirmed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

We also have seen Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware for the Galaxy Note 2 leak to the surface which means that the device is all but confirmed for T-Moible’s HSPA+ network.

Now all we need is a release date.

Verizon Galaxy Note 2

Like the others, the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 has leaked to the surface as well. However, thus far, it’s the only device that’s leaked to the surface in photo form.

Previous leaks suggest that the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 will be called SCH-I605, which is a device that is running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. That rumor  was backed up by a screenshot with a listing from a handset detection archive as well as a couple of Flickr pages where photos were uploaded using this smartphone.

The Galaxy Note 2 is likely headed to Verizon.

However, the most revealing evidence of a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 are the photos that surfaced just a few days ago that depict a Verizon-branded Galaxy Note 2.

They don’t appear to be doctored so it’s looking like Verizon will indeed play host to the Galaxy Note 2 sometime this year.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 2

So far, we’ve only heard a whisper about the Galaxy Note 2 heading to U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest cellular provider, however we haven’t seen any concrete evidence pop up.

It’s not too much of a stretch considering the Galaxy S III is on U.S. Cellular’s 4G LTE network but until we see more evidence, take the U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 2 rumor with a grain of salt.

Looking forward for a U.S. LTE Capable Quad-Core Exynos Note 2 even though the current Dual-Core is fast enough. I hope the time has come. I’m a fan of the “BIG SCREENS” when it comes to phones.

Look forward to the Verizon Galaxy Note 2. I hope they don’t vandalize the home button as has been done in the Verizon version that has surfaced online.

its simple really. 99% of my “data” usage is over wifi. this past 3 weeks 15gb over wifi 240mb over cellular. (S3) so yes the data network sucks but its usable and I pay a HELL of a lot less than people on AT&T Verizon or T-Mobile. (old account)
