The Samsung Galaxy Note 3, rumored to be replacing the Galaxy Note 2 at some point this year, is rumored to feature at least a 5.9-inch display to go along with a thinner frame that could be around 8mm in size.
Rumors have been swirling about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3, a new phablet that is currently rumored to be replacing the Galaxy Note 2 on shelves as soon as September. Whispering has pegged the Galaxy Note 3 with a launch date in September which would likely translate into a release either at the end of September or in October. And while launch rumors have been plentiful, we still have only heard a little bit about the phone itself.
Previous rumors have stated that the device’s screen could be larger than the Galaxy Note 2’s 5.5-inch display. We’ve also heard that it could be running a Exynos 5 Octa processor, the same processor that Samsung announced alongside Samsung Youm, Samsung’s unbreakable flexible display technology that has been both rumored and thought to not be on the Galaxy Note 3.
Prior to a report claiming that Samsung Youm was displayed, the OLED Association released a report claiming that the Galaxy Note 3 would indeed arrive in Q4 with a flexible plastic OLED display. The report, which was released earlier this month, was recently brought to light by OLED-Info. And while the flexible display technology is now in dispute, the report brings up some other possibilities in regards to the Galaxy Note 3.
In addition to claiming that it will indeed have an unbreakable display, the report suggests that the device will have, at least, a 5.9-inch display and could very well reach into the 6-inch range. We’ve already seen Samsung announce both the Galaxy 5.8 and Galaxy 6.3 Mega devices so it’s clear that Samsung has no issue going into that realm.
Previously, we had heard 5.9-inches or 6.3-inches might be the display size of the Galaxy Note 3, much larger than the two previous versions of the massive phablet.
Besides the display size, we also see that their information points to a design about 8mm thin. That’s much thinner than the Galaxy Note 2 which stands at 9.4mm thin.
Of course, all of this should be taken with an extreme grain of salt but now that the Galaxy S4 is at 5-inches with a thin frame, Samsung may ultimately want to give the Galaxy Note 3 a bit more separation in terms of screen size while also slimming down the overall form factor.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is rumored for a debut later this year at IFA in September, the same event wherein Samsung has debuted the previous two Galaxy Note models.
