8 New Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Details Emerge

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date isn’t expected to land for several months but that hasn’t stopped leaks from pointing to key Samsung Galaxy Note 4 details well ahead of launch.

The first two months of the year were dominated by rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. With both of those devices now on shelves, the smartphone rumor mill has been taken over by Apple’s rumored iPhone 6, the LG G3, Google’s rumored Nexus 6, and Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Note 4.

In particular, we’ve been hearing quite a bit about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, a device that is expected to land later on this year and replace the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the current version of Samsung’s Galaxy Note series.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rumors haven’t emerged with the same volume as iPhone 6 rumors but we’ve seen a number of details leak to the surface in the last five months. Interestingly, many of those details have come from loose-lipped Samsung executives who apparently don’t mind leaking key details to the public.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 - Screen Quality

Today, in a report from The Wall Street Journal, Lee Younghee, vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, proclaimed that the company is indeed looking at bringing a flexible display to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It’s a point that was recently confirmed by another Samsung executive and Lee simply backs up what we’ve already heard.

In January, a Samsung executive told Bloomberg that the Galaxy Note 4 could come with a new display type that would allow for better viewing angles. Since then, a series of Galaxy Note 4 rumors have pointed to a “bent” three-sided display. Recent patent filings show new form factors that Samsung could be toying with but they don’t confirm the look of the Galaxy Note 4 itself.

Reports also suggest that Samsung is at least considering a QHD display for the Galaxy Note 4. QHD display resolution would mean 2560 x 1440 resolution and it would translate into sharper looking on-screen content. QHD resolution is rumored to be on board the LG G3 and Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Prime but it’s not rumored to be coming with Apple’s iPhone 6.

Lee notes that the company, as expected, hasn’t come to a final decision on the device’s design which means that plans could ultimately change between now and the release of the Galaxy Note 4 later on this year. This wouldn’t be anything new.

Before it arrived on shelves, the Galaxy S5 was rumored to have a QHD display. And according to a report from SamMobile, the feature was in play for awhile before Samsung ultimately dropped it from the final version of the device. The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Plus full HD display.

Yoon Han-kil, senior vice president of Samsung’s product strategy team, recently told Reuters that the Galaxy Note 4 will be coming with a “new form factor” when it arrives later on this year. It’s not clear how, or if, a flexible display will fit into those plans. Samsung changes designs every year so there is no guarantee that the new form factor will incorporate a “bent” display.

Galaxy Note 3

The well-sourced evleaks has thrown his name into the Galaxy Note 4 rumor mill and claims that a recently leaked SM-N910 model number could pertain to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. He says that it now seems like a “lock” given that the device is expected to arrive for a number of carriers in the United States.

His information points to an arrival not only on AT&T but on Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon. The Galaxy Note series typically arrives on the United States’ five largest carriers which means that this SM-N910 could very well be the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 that consumers have been waiting for.

He also claims that the device will have 32GB of storage and that it will land for Bell in Canada as well. The Galaxy Note 3 features 32GB of internal storage though it comes with a microSD slot for expanded space.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 isn’t expected to arrive until the fall which makes these leaks a little more questionable than usual. However, evleaks boasts a solid track record and it’s plausible that Samsung is already in the process of planning the Galaxy Note 4’s release later on this year.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 - 006-X2

Dennis Miloseski, head of studio for Samsung Design America, told Ina Fried of Recode that the next Galaxy Note would arrive in the fall, just like the last three versions of the Galaxy Note. He also mentioned that the Galaxy S5 launch would take place in the spring, which it did, and that it would arrive alongside new wearables. The Galaxy S5 launched alongside the Gear Fit and Gear 2.

A new report from Business Korea echoes Miloseski’s stance and states that Samsung is working on a Google Glass competitor for the fall. It claims that the company is hoping to have it ready by IFA 2014.

IFA 2014 served as the launch pad for the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3 and there is a very good chance that it will serve as the grounds for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 launch.
