Samsung Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Update Hits Canada
The Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update has touched down in Canada as Canadian carriers TELUS and Rogers have made the long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates available to their customers.
Owners of the original Samsung Galaxy Note on TELUS and Rogers are now able to download and install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for their device, an update that will replace Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the device’s operating system. The updates come shortly after AT&T rolled out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its Galaxy Note. As we noted then, Canadian carriers typically are in line with AT&T when it comes to Android updates so it’s no surprise that they quickly followed AT&T to Android 4.1.

The updates don’t appear to be rolling out Over-the-Air (OTA) which means that owners searching for an update to install from within the device’s settings are going to be left empty-handed. Instead, users are reporting that the software updates are both available through Samsung Kies, Samsung’s software that allows owners to manually install the software themselves.
TELUS has made it easy on owners with detailed instructions while it appears that Rogers owners will have to make a go of it alone. Rogers hasn’t even updated its Android update page to reflect the roll out of the software.
The updates will take the Galaxy Note to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and it appears that all of Jelly Bean’s features are intact, which means that owners will soon get outfitted with improved widgets and multitasking, better core apps like Browser and Camera and what Google claims is a smoother UI. AT&T owners have been complaining about a laggy user interface so those installing this update should be weary.
It also looks like Multi-Window View feature is not on board the updates which means that Galaxy Note owners in North America are all without the function, at least for now. Multi-Window View allows owners to split up the display into two parts so as to run two apps at the same time. The feature is prominently featured on the Galaxy Note 2.
It’s unclear if these carriers will stop at Android 4.1 or if they will upgrade their Galaxy Note to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android.

I can’t believe what an insulting joke this “update” is. I’m over the lack of multi-window. What floors me are the little annoyances, like no more eraser function when I use a Wacom pen.
