Samsung Galaxy S III: First Commercial

Published

on

To coincide with the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung has released the first official advertisement for the device, a device that the company says is “Designed for Humans.”

That theme is evident in the Galaxy S III’s commercial where Samsung shows how the device can fit into the daily, human existence. In it, the device is the centerpiece in several human interactions.

Right off the bat, we are treated to the phone’s massive 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display. The display checks in at just a tad bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ display and smaller than the 5.3-inch display found on the Samsung Galaxy Note.

We then see two people, presumably a couple, appear after the tagline “It Understands You.” The couple then touch devices, and we’re assuming that this is in reference to the device’s S-Beam capabilities, Samsung’s spin on Android Beam, a feature found in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

S-Beam will allow users to share files through the NFC chip embedded inside the device.

Next, Samsung tells us that it “Shares What’s In Your Heart” and “Keeps Track of Loved Ones.” This likely refers to some of the sharing features that are coming with the device’s 8MP camera. They include Group Tags which will assign photos to groups kept in contacts, Social Tag which will match photos with peoples contact page images and something called Buddy Photo Share which makes it share a photo with a specific friend with a single tap.

It also “Recognises Who You Are,” “Follows Your Every Move” and “Sees Your Best Side.” The first part of this is likely in reference to Face Unlock as well as S-Voice, which is a Siri-like voice recognition feature were users can control the phone’s camera or unlock the phone, all through voice.

Samsung relied heavily on nature for the inspiration for the Galaxy S III’s design which is why the company says it “Shares the Warmth of Nature.”

And finally, the video ends with “Waits Until You Sleep” which is referring to the device’s Stay Smart Feature, which, when turned on, can detect if the user is looking at the screen. If not, the phone will shut the screen off to preserve battery life.

It’s a well-done commercial, but it would have been nice if Samsung actually glanced over the actual features instead of just alluding to them and assuming consumers know what it is that they’re referring to.

This is just the first commercial of what will likely be many so there is definitely room for improvement.

What’d you think of the first Samsung Galaxy S III ad?

When you set the bar on specs, you have the luxury of being able to ignore them and instead focus on the user experience. I think that this is Samsung’s best ad yet.
