The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update release is picking up speed but that doesn’t mean that every Galaxy S4 user should expect a speedy delivery. In fact, there are still some lingering Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates, a sign that the roll process isn’t going to simply end overnight.
In October, Samsung detailed the first major Android update for the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update not only brought some of the features of Android 4.3 but it also delivered Samsung Galaxy Gear support and Samsung Knox to owners of Samsung’s former flagship.
A few days later, the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out began. By December, the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update had completed in the United States and had rolled out to thousands of users around the world.
Well, we’re now heading into March and the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out still hasn’t completed. In fact, today, we’ve seen a Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update appear for the first time.
As we have pointed out, there are several Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates that are lagging. Australian carrier Telstra still hasn’t released its Galaxy S4 4G Android 4.3 update and says that it may not roll out until the middle of March. Fellow Australian carrier Optus is in the same boat.
Originally, the carrier wanted to push out the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in weeks ago but it was forced to delay it due to a critical issue. The carrier then reissued a release window saying that it would roll out in late February or early March. The carrier has not been forced to admit that it won’t arrive until March.
Today another Australian carrier, Vodafone, announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 4G Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the first time, more than four months after the Android 4.3 update first started rolling out.
The carrier says that testing is “scheduled” and does not elaborate on any kind of timing for the update. Once testing begins, it can be a week or more before the update rolls out so it’s looking like it will probably roll out either in March or April.
These updates remain missing even as Samsung pushes out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy S4. The update, which recently landed for the two major international models and is currently available for some carriers in the United States, offers users a number of new enhancements including emoji support and more.
With Android 4.3 Jelly Bean still unreleased for some Galaxy S4 owners, we’re fairly certain that we’re going to see some long waits for the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat, at least on some carriers. Those who remain on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and those who may have just received Android 4.3 will want to temper expectations as the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out is likely going to take months, not weeks.
