The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, which has been rumored to either have a dual-core or quad-core processor on board, may wind up sporting the lesser of the two with new information pointing to it as having a Exynos 5210 dual-core processor on board when it arrives later this year.

Over the past few months, rumors in regards to a smaller Samsung Galaxy S4 have been rampant. In fact, the device, known as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, has essentially leaked out completely before its anticipated launch date. Samsung’s device is thought to have a 4.3-inch qHD display, 8MP camera, a plastic design that mimics some of what the larger Galaxy S4 has to offer, and some of the same software features of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

This could be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

The Galaxy S4 Mini is thought to be coming out sometime in July of this year alongside the Samsung Galaxy S4 Activ, a rugged version of the larger Samsung Galaxy S4.

Until a short time ago though, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini did have a mystery, one pertaining to the type of processor that would be on board. Earlier rumors had indicated that it may have either quad-core processor or a dual-core processor on board. Now, thanks to some new information from Korea Investment & Securities, courtesy of OLED-Display it looks like the Galaxy S4 Mini may be running a dual-core processor.

Specifically, the processor is thought to be a Exynos 5210 clocked at 1.6GHz. That should definitely be enough juice for a smaller, mid-range device like the Galaxy S4 Mini though it’s possible that Samsung’s choice may have implications in the future.

Don't believe the latest rumor that Android 5.0 is delayed.

If it does have a dual-core processor, there could be some Android update implications.

Rumors have stated that devices without quad-core processors may never get the upgrade to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, thought to be arriving sometime later this year. If that’s true, it could mean that this device would only get one major Android upgrade, likely to Android 4.3 which is thought to be coming at Google I/O tomorrow.

Of course, that’s not confirmed but it’s something that consumers should certainly keep in mind before taking the plunge with the Galaxy S4 Mini.

Other specifications of the Galaxy S4 Mini could include 1-2GB of RAM, an LTE model, 32GB of storage space, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and a large 2,100 mAh battery.
