The Samsung Galaxy S4 won’t be hitting the United States with Samsung’s new Exynos 5 Octa quad-core processor and now, it appears, that the United Kingdom will join it as Samsung has confirmed that the UK Galaxy S4 will be coming with a Qualcomm processor instead.
Last week, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 after months of rumors and leaks. All along, the rumors pointed to Samsung equipping the device with some powerful hardware and as expected the official version of the Galaxy S4 arrived with a host of big time hardware. One of those features is a quad-core processor, up from the dual-core processor on the Galaxy S3. However, as we have seen, the company will be using two different processors in its device, something that has already been a source for controversy.
Pocket-lint claims that at the press event last week, Samsung told it that the UK model would feature the Exynos 5 Octa processor, Samsung’s new octo-core processor that was introduced at CES 2013. It appears that Samsung’s own press release for the Galaxy S4 in the UK also claimed that the Galaxy S4 would feature Samsung’s new processor.
It appears however that that information was wrong and that the Samsung Galaxy S4 in the United Kingdom will instead feature the Galaxy S4’s other processor, the 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor from Qualcomm.
That sentiment has been confirmed by Samsung who says that the UK model will be coming with the 1.9GHz quad-core processor instead. The Exynos 5 Octa is clock at 1.6GHz. While this might be a bit of a let down for some, it shouldn’t matter too much. Both devices are extremely powerful and should offer not only performance improvements but battery life improvements as well.
While some may be feeling cheated, Samsung’s website explicitly says that:
All functionality, features, specifications and other product information provided in this document including, but not limited to, the benefits, design, pricing, components, performance, availability, and capabilities of the product are subject to change without notice or obligation.
So it appears that the company either decided to change the processor at the last minute or the information that went out to press outlets in the United Kingdom was bad.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is expected to arrive in the United Kingdom at the end of April, with April 25th and April 26th being pegged as release dates for the popular device.
In addition to the quad-core processor, the Galaxy S4 will also feature a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera, thin design standing at 7.9mm, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the addition of Samsung’s new powerful TouchWiz features.
