Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release Grows in U.S.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release continues to gain ground in the United States as another major carrier has rolled out its version of the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update today.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update first started rolling out back in December. Initially, the update was limited to just a few variants in a few different regions. Over time, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release has made substantial progress including here in the United States where Sprint and Verizon became the first carriers to offer the software.

Today, the U.S. Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release has expanded to another major U.S. carrier as Samsung continues its Galaxy S5 Lollipop release in the new year.

The T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is pushing out to owners in the United States making it the third Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade to land inside the United States. As expected, the T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is a massive upgrade and checks in at close to 1GB in size. This is the T-Mobile Galaxy S5’s first major Android update and it shows.

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 users will want to check in the device’s settings for the software. If it’s not there, it’s worth using the Samsung Kies application for PC. Samsung Kies should allow T-Mobile Galaxy S5 Lollipop users to skip the OTA and install the software manually. Given the size of the update, both routes should take a bit and users will want set aside some time to download and install the new software.

This roll out means that there are now just two major Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates left to go in the United States. AT&T and U.S. Cellular are bringing up the rear and it’s not clear when either of them will push out their versions of the software. U.S. carriers almost never disclose release information ahead of time and users on those carriers in the United States probably won’t find out about their roll outs until the day that the updates are release.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update is still the only Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop update rolling out in the United States though we expect that to change in the near future as Samsung makes progress with its Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop upgrades. All three of those updates are starting to push out in force and the United States has historically been near the front of the line for major Samsung Android updates.

U.S. carriers have yet to confirm upgrades though we know that the Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is in progress behind the scenes. A User Agent Profile confirmed Sprint’s plans ahead of time though the UA Prof did not outline a release date. We expect Sprint, and other U.S. carriers to push out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to all of their top Galaxy devices in the future.

Those four roll outs won’t be the only Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to reach Galaxy devices. The company is also expected to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Galaxy S5 mini, Galaxy S5 Active Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, and the aging Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It’s not clear when those updates will roll out and they could lag behind as Samsung works to get its flagship devices upgraded with its latest Android software.

More Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates are expected to roll out before the month of February is over with French carrier SFR confirmed to have an update up its sleeve for late February. Canadian carrier Rogers claims that it will roll out the Galaxy S5 in February or March though an exact date for the update’s arrival has yet to be confirmed.
