Samsung Galaxy Tab Edge Rumors Emerge

Published

on

For the past few months all the reports and rumors for Samsung have been about the new Galaxy Note 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus with a bigger 5.7-inch curved display. Both are set to be announced this week on August 13th, but a few rumors are suggesting we could see a third device, a Samsung Galaxy Tab Edge.

Earlier this year Samsung introduced two brand new Android tablets for 2015. Those being the Galaxy Tab S2, and it comes in two sizes. However, Samsung loves delivering tons of options for buyers, and a few rumors are suggesting we could see a new Samsung Galaxy Tab Edge later this month. Here’s a few things buyers can expect, if Samsung indeed releases a curved tablet.

In July Samsung sent out press invites for an event in New York City, offering select press the chance to see “what’s next” from Samsung at its annual Unpacked event. This is where we’ve seen new Galaxy Tabs, the Galaxy S6 earlier this year, and the Galaxy Note for the past few years. On August 13th Samsung is hosting a big event in New York City, and the company could have more than a few surprises up its sleeve.

At this point it’s almost completely confirmed that Samsung will take the stage and announce the all-new 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Two devices that have been rumored for months on end.

However, we could also see a huge third smartphone of some sort, or a brand new Android tablet, not to mention the highly rumored Samsung Gear A smartwatch. Samsung already announced the new Galaxy Tab S2 tablets, which are set to be released later this month around the globe. It’s possible that this week in NYC the company could announce a launch date for the Galaxy Tab S2 in the US, but the image below suggests something different.

Last year Samsung released its first flagship device (excluding the Galaxy Round) with a curved display alongside of the Galaxy Note 4, and called it the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. One side of the 5.7-inch display was curved that had notification tickers like the bottom of ESPN, and tons of other neat little tricks. Then earlier this year the Galaxy S6 Edge arrived with curves on both sides. So what’s next? A curved Samsung Galaxy Tab Edge. Maybe.

The image above and below is a teaser image on the Samsung Philipines website, which was quickly removed. Now all it has is a countdown timer, with the background image of three devices completely missing. Looking closely at it we see what looks to be the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on the top with its curved sides. In the middle is the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with the S-Pen stylus slightly pulled out, and on bottom is something even bigger. Roughly a 7 or 8-inch smartphone or tablet.

Giving the image a closer look it appears to have the same aluminum edges as the Samsung Galaxy S6, new Galaxy Note 5 and others, only it’s much bigger. They’ve already announced the Galaxy Tab S2, so this could be something completely different.

We’ve heard a few different reports of a Galaxy Tab Edge, and this image could be the one and only teaser, which was quickly removed. The design differs from the Galaxy Tab S2, which has speakers on the bottom and doesn’t have the same thin plastic gaps separating the aluminum as shown above. Those plastic separators are to improve WiFi and signals lost from an all-aluminum device.

It’s possible that come August 13th along with the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is an all-new Samsung Galaxy Tab Edge with an 8-inch curved display. We know a third bigger device is coming, we just don’t know what it is.

If a Galaxy Tab Edge with an 8-inch screen is revealed we can expect it to have a similar design and spec list as the newly revealed Galaxy Tab S2. Those being a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 HD S-AMOLED display, only with one or both sides being curved. It’ll likely be powered by the same 8-core processor and 3GB of RAM as the Galaxy Tab S2, sport a fingerprint sensor for improved security, and an 8 megapixel rear and 2.1 front camera. All of Samsung’s tablets still have an IR sensor for remote control features, and a micro-SD slot for user-expandable storage to load up with movies, video, TV shows and more.

For now we’ve seen no solid reports and rumors of a Samsung Galaxy Tab Edge, just a few light suggestions. One thing is clear though, and that is the fact that Samsung has something bigger than the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 5 set to be revealed on August 13th, and we’ll have to wait and see exactly what it is. It could just be the Galaxy Tab S2 for the US, or something entirely new and different. Leave us a comment below with your thoughts. Would you buy a Galaxy Tab Edge?
