Samsung announced on its Facebook page that it would buy customer’s old phones and pay cash as an incentive for new users to switch to the company’s Galaxy line of Android smartphones. Leading Samsung’s Galaxy lineup is its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, which is available worldwide and is available on all major U.S. carriers, but Samsung also has other Galaxy models as well, many of which are not available in the U.S.
Samsung promises up to $300 for your old phone. All you’ll have to do is visit the trade-in page, purchase a new Samsung-branded smartphone, and send in your old device within 30 days of purchase. You’ll get a check sent to you for your cash back. If you’ve purchased a Samsung device recently prior to the announcement of the trade-up and trade-in program, you’ll have to have your receipt available.
Participating in the program will make you an eco-friendly consumer as well. Samsung is working with Clover Wireless for the program. Once they receive your old phone, that device is spared of its fate in the landfills as Clover will recondition and refurbish your device for sale either in the U.S. or overseas, or sends your device off for recycling.
The amount you get in cash from the program will vary based on the device that you send in. To be safe, you should wipe all materials and information from your phone prior to sending in your old phone to Samsung and Clover.
