Slow Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update Frustrates Owners

The Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update release date, which was supposed to arrive in early Q3, remains a mystery at this point.

Motorola promised the update for sometime during the early part of the third quarter, though it never gave any sort of definition as to what it meant by early. Many Droid Bionic owners, judging by comments and email, interpreted that as meaning a release in the month of July.

Q3 makes up the months of July, August and September.

However, now that July has come and gone without any sort of an update, Droid Bionic owners waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich are confused and left to wonder about what exactly Motorola meant by early Q3.

The Droid Bionic ICS update is still slated for “early Q3.”

It’s possible that the company meant by August 15th, the exact middle of Q3, though they could have easily just have said mid-Q3. We have heard that the Droid Bionic update is on track for a possible release in the middle of August though Motorola and Verizon have stayed silent about any sort of progress.

We’ve also heard that the update should have been out by now, however, the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX ICS updates made sure Droid Bionic owners would have to wait.

Both of those updates were and still are plagued by a number of bugs.

If that’s true, it would have been nice of Motorola and Verizon to say something. Motorola’s Ice Cream Sandwich roll out page still lists the software as coming in early Q3, something that is now debatable.

While we had hoped that the word “early” would truly mean that the update would roll out “early” it now looks as if a mid-Q3 roll out is what Droid Bionic owners have to look forward to.

We’re digging for new information and we’ll let you know what we find.

I used to be a die hard Moto fan but my Bionic experience has been less than positive.. Next phone will be a Nexus or iPhone.

That is NOT the Droid Bionic. This site keeps putting that picture up. They redesigned it before release and it looks like this:

IMO it always discredits a tech site that uses those old pics of the Bionic. If the site does not even know what the phone looks like how is anyone supposed to believe anything the site prints??

I was thinking that too, you’d think for a phone site someone would catch that.

I can’t believe I got the 2 devices that would get the ICS update after everything else, the bionic and the 8.9″ samsung galaxy 1. What luck.

As a long time Moto-fan, I have also lost faith. I’m Nexus only from now on.

Motorola’s been brutal with upgrades – didn’t upgrade the Droid X2 or Droid 3, botched the Bionic update. I will never buy another Motorola device.

While it’s easy to point a finger at Motorola; make sure those other four fingers are pointing at Verizon. They approve the code Moto submits for release. Moto promising any release date is a fallacy at best. They can proclaim code that will conquer gravity and cure disease, but if VZW doesn’t like the way VZNav appears, it can (and will) kill it in a second. I worked for them as a technician under contract until last year, and saw that scenario many times delay other updates on other devices. Hey, we’re gonna get ICS eventually. The folks in the media are quick to pounce on delays, but remembering the nightmare that was Storm I in 2008, I can see why VZW wants to release software that’s more than beta code. I can be patient, and wait. We may not get or need Jelly Bean, but I’ll be happy with ICS when it arrives. After that, CyanogenMod, here I come!

Lies and more lies. Promises and more promises.

When I bought my Bionic last September, the Verizon salesman told me that ICS for the phone would be ready for download the following month.

The morals of the story are:

    1. Never trust a Verizon salesman. At best, they’re ignorant. At worst, they’re just liars.
    2. Pretty much the same about Motorola. Almost every mobile phone I have owned has been a Motorola. However, it appears that with smartphones, they are behind the curve.

I’m wondering about the quality of ICS for the Bionic, as they have given it such a low priority. I will give my own priority to other brands in the future, especially as Motorola appears to care little about supporting and retaining its customers.

    Dear Motorola Owners,

I work at Verizon, senior tech, we have been sent plenty opportunities to release ICS, too many times, for the motorola droid bionic. We do send the code back to them whenever and whatever we dont like about it, our bloatware does need some tweaks some times so thats how we work it out.

    Thank you
    Senior Tech, Verizon Corp.

Yeah okay sure…. like you would work there and come on here being arrogant like that. Then when will it be released to the bionic? You don’t work as a tech at verizonwireless just admit it. You are a fanboy sad that everyone is bashing vzw.
