Sony Xperia P and Xperia U Smartphones Announced at MWC

Sony has finally taken the wraps off of its much leaked Xperia P and Xperia U smartphones, which are mid-range and budget-conscious cousins the the company’s Xperia S flagship that was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month. Announced at Mobile World Congress, both the Xperia P and Xperia U will be powered by a dual-core CPU and will have design aesthetics that are found on the Xperia S.

Unlike the flagship Xperia S, it appears that the Xperia P will utilize a unibody aluminum design, rather than the unibody plastic of the S. The phone will have Sony’s proprietary user interface on top of Android Gingerbread. Though the Xperia P will also have the Reality Bravia Mobile display engine, the phone also supports Sony’s WhiteMagic technology, which adds a super bright display that makes the phone’s screen viewable under the brightest of sunlight.

The Xperia U will be a more budget-friendly model with a 3.5-inch display and the device comes with xLound technology to bring Son 3D surround sound.

In addition, Xperia S, the ultimate HD smartphone, is now shipping to markets across the globe, with first sales in the Sony Style store in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress. Xperia P and Xperia U will be available to consumers globally in the second quarter of this year.

Xperia NXT series – a connected entertainment experience

Xperia U – powerful Sony entertainment in a stylish and compact design

Xperia U combines powerful Sony entertainment in a stylish and compact design that consumers can personalise inside and out. With xLoud™ and Sony 3D surround sound audio technology integrated into the music player, consumers will enjoy a crisp and loud sound experience. They can also stream music from their Xperia U to wireless speakers with a touch using DLNA.

In Xperia U the transparent element illuminates to match the colour of photos viewed in the gallery or the album art of music tracks currently playing. Xperia U can also be personalised with exchangeable caps and themes to reflect consumers’ personality and mood.
