Sony Xperia P Ice Cream Sandwich Update Starts to Roll Out

Sony has announced that the Sony Xperia P Ice Cream Sandwich update has begun to roll out and will continue to roll out globally over the next few weeks.

In a blog post, the company confirmed the Sony Xperia P ICS roll out which will take the Xperia-branded device from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Android 4.0, while feature rich, is not Google’s latest piece of mobile software. That honor goes to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which was announced in June at Google I/O.

It’s unclear if the Sony Xperia P will get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean though Sony has said that it is evaluating updates for its current Xperia devices.

At the very least, it will now for sure be getting Android 4.0 ICS which means it will be getting a number of new features including a new user interface, a new Gmail application, a better browser, Face Unlock, and a whole lot more.

The Sony Xperia P ICS update has started to roll out.

Other features include:

  • New ways to experience your media with new media applications – “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies”
  • Extended standby mode, increasing standby time by up to four times (depending on user-profile and data consumption)
  • Lock screen with improved functionality
  • Resizable widgets for improved personalization
  • Improved control of your mobile data consumption
  • Recent Apps button for a clear overview of your applications

In addition to confirming the good news for Sony Xperia P owners, Sony also confirmed that it will be rolling out ICS to the Xperia U, Xperia sola and Xperia go, though it hasn’t confirmed a specific date for any of those.

Sony says that it will be letting owners of those devices know about their updates soon.

The company continues to be one of the best when it comes to communicating with its customers about major Android updates. While other companies remain silent, Sony is working diligently to keep its community updated with the latest news about upgrades for its assortment of handsets.

I updated my Xperia P today, but, when I connect to my router internet stop working even on my laptop until I disconnect my Xperia (Wi-Fi is not working), nor GPRS (it’s not working either).
I live in Iraq (using Arabic language), the update I get has free programs included that was in Persian language (people in Iran use this language).

I found where the Wi-Fi problem is, it’s with the WPA2 AES or WPA2 AES + TKIP, if you change it to something else say WEB or WPA “1” you will have no problems at all.

I did noticed that it was not the security after all, I was changing lots of settings on every try, I was misled, the only thing that makes deference is the wireless mode, if set to “bg mixed” it will work, if set to “bgn mixed” it will not.

Just go to your router settings and change the wireless mode to BG Mixed (on some routers its 145 mbps), don’t use N mode (300 mbps) until Sony do something to fix the issue.

but in your case you may not even see the SSID because Android don’t support Ad-hoc service like in connectify.

    Upgrade 6 Dec:
The Xperia P ICS upgrade is very bad. You will kill some functions of your phone.
So don’t do it. I did it and I feel so bad I did the upgrade to ICS. No I can’t show pictures / photos anymore. Several more issues and SONY doesn’t help. Apparently they don’t know neither. The ICS upgrade is SkyFAIL instead of the SkyFALL – all these marketing dollars wasted as they can’t deal with the ICS problems.
