The Sony Xperia Z Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, which was promised to owners shortly after launch, has finally rolled out though it appears that the firmware, at least for now, is limited to certain regions of the world with some carrier variants reportedly getting the update with their unbranded brethren.
Last week, the Sony Xperia ZL Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update beat the Sony Xperia Z Android 4.2 update to the airwaves though it was a sign that something Xperia Z related would likely be heading out in the near future. Sure enough, as expected, the Sony Xperia Z Android 4.2 update, which was once promised to owners shortly after the device’s launch in February, is finally rolling out.
According to XperiaBlog, the software has hit owners of the Xperia Z LTE in several regions while some other owners of the HSPA+ model have also received their update. There are also a few carrier-branded models that have received the update though it appears that all of the updates are limited to specific regions of the world.
This of course means that some regions and some carrier-branded versions of the device will be waiting several weeks before the update rolls out. We’ve seen at least one carrier suggest that it will be rolling out the software in July and that could be the case for many of the carriers that didn’t receive the software in the past few hours.
The update should be coming with not only the enhancements of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but also Sony’s own enhancements which should improve the device dramatically. The update is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Jelly Bean from Google. It rolls out just a few short weeks before Google is expected to unleash the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update unto owners of its Nexus devices.
This should also mean that the upcoming T-Mobile Xperia Z, which is set for arrival this summer, will be arriving with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board when it hits shelves.
