With the talk of the town lately being all about Android 4.4 KitKat and 4.3 Jelly Bean updates over the past month, some are still months and months behind waiting for something sweet. And one of them is the T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z.
Coming in roughly 5 months later than the international version in other markets, this week T-Mobile is finally ready to update the flagship Sony Xperia Z waterproof smartphone to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The international Xperia Z and ZL have been enjoying this update and many of the changes for months, and now T-Mobile customers will be happy to know it should start arriving as of this morning.
Confirming the details on its official Support Forum, T-Mobile states that starting today the rollout will initially begin, and most users should have the update within 2 weeks. Coming in at 185 MB in size a WiFi connection is recommended, and post update you’ll be enjoying Android 4.2.2 and some new camera features.
The update will deliver lockscreen widgets, direct access to the camera from your lockscreen, an improved multi-tasking panel and a few tweaks to the overall look and feel of your homescreen. The interface has slightly been tweaked, but the changes are quite small. The important thing here being that 4.2.2 brings lockscreen widgets and access to the Xperia Z.
Then of course we have bug fixes, performance enhancements and stability improvements, and Sony fixed the random reboot while trying to dial a phone number issue. Something we’ve heard from a few users in the recent past. The update is extremely late, almost 6 months, while many are getting Android 4.3 or 4.4 KitKat, but we’ll take what we can get.
