Tomorrow morning UPS drivers will start with a truck full of iPhone 5 boxes, and for users who aren’t home when the UPS guy rolls through their neighborhood, should take 5 minutes to make sure their UPS driver will be able to leave the iPhone 5.
Apple ships the iPhone 5 with the requirement for a signature to make sure the iPhone makes it to the right address and isn’t reported missing or stolen after it is delivered.
Normally UPS accepts a handwritten note with basic package information and a signature, but this time around, users need to follow a process at Apple.com. Based on UPS customer support, customers who ordered direct from a carrier will need to make sure they are home, or can try to leave a similar document.
How to Sign for iPhone 5 Delivery Early
Login to Apple.com
View the iPhone 5 order status.
Click the Pre-Sign for Delivery button.
Agree to the terms and conditions.
Print and sign the document displayed.
Tape it to the front door tomorrow morning.
It is important to read the terms and conditions, because by signing it you release Apple and UPS from responsibility f your package goes missing.
I understand that Apple requires signatures acknowledging receipt of delivered goods. By signing the Shipment Release Authorization form, I hereby authorize Apple’s carrier to leave my package at the address I have specified for delivery when placing my order. I understand that, in so doing, I assume the risk of any loss, theft, or destruction, and release Apple and its carriers from all liability that may result from, leaving the package where I have indicated on the Shipment Release Authorization form.
If this is the only option, it would be smart to track the delivery and try to run home right after it is delivered or ask for it to be delivered to a neighbor that is home.
Users who miss the delivery can try to use UPS My Choice or call UPS after delivery is missed to pick up the phone at the warehouse later that night.
Shipments from AT&T, Verizon and Sprint that are sent by Fedex may be able to use this same trick to pick the iPhone 5 up in the morning, but may want to play it safe and leave a note with similar information.
