Verizon Galaxy S III Developer Edition Release Date Remains Unknown

Earlier this month, Samsung announced that its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III Developer Edition would be coming soon. Two weeks later, a release date has yet to be bestowed upon the Verizon Galaxy S III variant that comes with an unlockable bootloader.

At the beginning of July, Samsung announced that it would be releasing a version of the Galaxy S III for Verizon that comes with an unlockable bootloader called the Samsung Galaxy S III Developer Edition.

The bootloader on the Verizon Galaxy S III, unlike the other Galaxy S III models in the U.S., comes with an encrypted bootloader which limits consumers customization options, chiefly, the installation of ROMs.

This new Galaxy S III Developer Edition, while costing an absolute fortune, is aimed at those that want a Verizon Galaxy S III but also want an unlocked bootloader as Verizon’s current Galaxy S III will never see its bootloader unlocked.

The Galaxy S III Developer Edition release date is still unknown.

On July 16th, Samsung said that the $599 smartphone, that comes without a warranty, would be coming soon to shelves.

Since then though, neither Samsung nor Verizon have said anything about the device’s release date leaving many to wonder when, if ever, the device will be hitting shelves.

Verizon is extremely strict with its bootloader policy and it’s possible that the carrier has meddled with Samsung’s plans. It’s also possible that Samsung is just trying to get its production issues under control to ensure that it has plentiful stock available when the device does go on sale.

Whatever the case may be, we still don’t have a release date for the coveted phone and those hoping to fully customize their Verizon Galaxy S III are still in dark as to when they will be able to do so.

It’s our hope that Samsung gives customers some sort of official update soon and adds the 64GB version as an option as well.

Anyone holding out for this device?

I will be holding out for sure, unless something better comes out in the meantime. I just spoke with Samsung chat and they said it will be out by mid August. Not as soon as I would like, but at least it’s something…

My Bionic broke so it’s back to the Droid 1 because I want this GS3 dev version. Droid 1 with Cyanogen’s current version and all the animations disabled is quite bearable. It’s frustrating not knowing if it will be weeks months or ever until the dev phone is available. If not for this nebulous promise I’d get a gnex instead.
