The Verizon Galaxy S6 release date is confirmed for April 10th but that doesn’t mean that every single Galaxy S6 model is going to be widely available that day. In fact, the Verizon Galaxy S6 release has hit a few speed bumps in recent days and it looks like some models won’t be arriving until May.
In early March, Verizon and its carrier rivals all but confirmed plans to stock the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. In late March, Verizon became the first carrier to offer a concrete Galaxy S6 pre-order date ahead of its Galaxy S6 release date. Shortly before the start of pre-orders on April 1st, the carrier confirmed its Galaxy S6 release date for April 10th.
While Verizon’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge release dates are both confirmed for April 10th, we continue to see some backwards movement on the shipping dates for some models. It’s not the standard black and white models that are moving away from the Verizon Galaxy S6 release date, it’s the gold Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models, devices that Verizon announced shortly before the start of pre-orders.
In the week since Verizon’s initial Galaxy S6 release date announcement, we’ve seen all six gold Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge availability dates get pushed back into May. As of right now, those looking to buy the gold Verizon Galaxy S6 are looking at availability dates that stretch from the beginning of May all the way into the middle of the month.
- Verizon Galaxy S6 32GB – May 17th
- Verizon Galaxy S6 64GB – May 1st
- Verizon Galaxy S6 128GB – May 17th
- Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB – May 8th
- Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge 64GB – May 1st
- Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge 128GB – May 17th
These are estimated ship by dates though Verizon has been known to ship out devices well before the listed availability dates so there’s a chance that those who pre-order the gold Galaxy S6 now ahead of release will get it before the middle of May. It’s also possible that these Galaxy S6 dates will continue to move as more users put in orders.
Amazon is currently taking Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge orders though the retailer hasn’t posted anything about the gold Galaxy S6 or gold Galaxy S6 Edge, a sign that these devices will be in short supply in the month of April.
Verizon isn’t the only carrier struggling with its gold Galaxy S6 release date. Some carriers, including AT&T, currently aren’t taking pre-orders on select gold Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models. Instead of using availability dates like Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile say that their gold Galaxy S6 models will be “Coming Soon.”
It’s clear that the Galaxy S6 release in the United States is far from over. In addition to these gold Galaxy S6 stock shortages, we’re also hearing rumors about a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active for AT&T, a device that could come equipped with several features that the regular Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models don’t have on board.
Yesterday, Japanese site Blog of Mobile spotted the AT&T Galaxy S6 Active lurking on Bluetooth SIG. The filing, for the SM-G890A, didn’t confirm a release date but it means that the Galaxy S6 Active has taken another step toward a release inside the United States.
According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will reportedly feature a 5.1 inch Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 (2K) display, an 8-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage and a 16-megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front-facing camera.
Rumors suggest that it will come with a much larger 3,500 mAh battery and an IP67 certification that will make it water and dust resistant like the Galaxy S5. A more recent rumor suggests that it will come with a microSD card slot, another feature that the Galaxy S6 doesn’t have. Galaxy S6 Active release date rumors have pointed to an arrival this summer though with a Bluetooth filing under its belt, an announcement from Samsung could come at any time.
It’s not clear if the Galaxy S6 Active will come to Verizon or any other US carriers.
