Verizon HTC One Release: What to Expect

The Verizon HTC One was recently announced though HTC and Verizon have neglected to give it an official release date, official features or an official price tag. While those remain unknowns, the device is still expected to arrive sometime this summer and here, we take a close look at what to expect from the Verizon HTC One release.

All the way back in February of this year, HTC took to the stage in New York City to announce its brand new flagship smartphone, the HTC One. The HTC One arrived with a host of new and attractive features including a large 1080p display, speedy processor, Ultrapixel camera, and a full metal design that puts most smartphone designs to shame.

We could see a Verizon HTC One at the Verizon announcement.

We take a look at what to expect from the Verizon HTC One release.

Helping matters are the Android Jelly Bean and new Sense 5 user interface that are on board, the latter of which contains two big time features in HTC BlinkFeed and HTC Zoe.

The HTC One, unlike many of HTC’s previous Android smartphones, arrived on a host of carriers including AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. All three of those carriers have offered the device since June with regional carrier Cincinnati Bell also now offering HTC’s flagship. Of course, there is still one carrier that is left to launch, that of course being Verizon.

The Verizon HTC One was once one of the most heavily rumored smartphones of 2013. HTC and Verizon put those rumors to rest several weeks ago though as they finally confirmed the HTC One for arrival sometime this summer.

As June wages on though, HTC and Verizon have remained silent on any specifics in regards to the HTC One, even going as far as to say that they can’t confirm any of the specifications on the device.

While consumers wait for an official release date announcement, we want to take a close, in-depth look what to expect from the still unannounced but certainly upcoming Verizon HTC One release.

A Verizon HTC One Release

HTC One sales are at 5 million while the Galaxy S4 sales hit 10 million earlier this month.

The HTC One will arrive on Verizon, despite the silence.

Though HTC and Verizon are continuing to remain silent about the Verizon HTC One release, consumers should not be worried about the companies postponing or cancelling the release.

If HTC and Verizon did not intend to release this device this summer, neither of them would have said that they intended to release the Verizon HTC One this summer. Instead, HTC and Verizon would have simply chosen to pass on the HTC One and chosen another HTC device to launch to replace the Droid DNA.

By confirming the release and continuing to point to summer, those worried about a potential cancellation should not be worried at all. This smartphone is coming to shelves though it may be a few weeks before it does.

Announcement Around the HTC One Android 4.2 Update Roll Out

Those looking for a Verizon HTC One release date announcement should expect one to arrive around the time that HTC rolls out the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update. In fact, we believe this to be the reason why the Verizon HTC One release is as confusing as it is.

The Verizon HTC One is rumored to have Android 4.2.2 as its on board operating system, an operating system that hasn’t yet rolled out to early adopters of the HTC One. The update was thought to be rolling out to owners sometime in the middle of June though that may have been a little premature as it appears that HTC may need some more time to ensure a well-functioning update. Just how long though remains unclear.

Since the Verizon HTC One is expected to have Android 4.2 on board, consumers should expect HTC and Verizon to announce it right around the time that the Android 4.2 update rolls out. If it announced and released the Verizon model earlier than the roll out, it might seem like the company was playing favorites.

Remember, we’ve heard that the device will be out before the end of June and at this point, it’s still possible.

Release Shortly After Announcement

At this point, consumers can expect the Verizon HTC One release to emerge shortly after Verizon announces it. The HTC One is an aging device and Verizon is already tempting fate by releasing it this long after its rivals and this close to the arrival of the second wave of big name smartphones including the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Simply put, there is no time to waste and consumers can expect Verizon’s announcement to be just a few days, maybe even a day, ahead of its official release date.

No Verizon HTC One 64GB

The HTC One 64GB is an AT&T exclusive.

The HTC One 64GB is an AT&T exclusive.

It’s clear that AT&T has a stranglehold on the 64GB HTC One and likely won’t be relinquishing it anytime soon. Sprint and T-Mobile remain with 32GB options only and the new HTC One Nexus will be coming with 32GB as well.

While consumers would love for Verizon to announce a 64GB HTC One that’s available on release day, there are simply too many signs that suggest that it won’t.

It’s possible that AT&T could lose its exclusivity over the 64GB HTC One sometime later this year but consumers should expect the 32GB HTC One to be the only Verizon HTC One available at launch.

Immediate Price Cuts

Those looking for a discount on the Verizon HTC One price will find one either on, or shortly after the device’s release date. As was the case with the AT&T and Sprint models, the Verizon HTC One should see immediate price cuts.

Consumers looking for absurd discounts to the likely $199.99 price tag are going to come up empty-handed, but we expect retailers like Amazon to offer the device for at least $20 off the contract price at Verizon.

Given how old it is, we wouldn’t be surprised to see retailers knock off more than that in weeks after its release but at the very least, consumers should expect there to be some discounts when the Verizon HTC One finally arrives on shelves both virtual and physical in the weeks ahead.
