Verizon Wireless Expands Phone Lineup for Prepaid Customers

Published

on

Prepaid customers usually have a more limited selection to choose from for smartphones, though we’re seeing the market for that change recently with more competitive prepaid smartphone offerings. Verizon Wireless is adding to that change making five more devices available to its prepaid customers. Those devices include the HTC Droid Incredible, the Motorola Droid 3, the BlackBerry Bold 9930, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, and the LG Enlighten.

VerizonLogo1The carrier says that for $80 per month, customers can choose a plan that includes unlimited voice minutes and text messages as well as 1 GB of wireless data.

The expanded prepaid portfolio is great for users who demand more advanced features out of their devices, but may not be willing, able, or comfortable signing a two-year service agreement. Unfortunately, though, for Verizon, the latest additions are still last year’s models and do not include support for Verizon’s faster 4G LTE services. Those five new devices are 3G devices.

Rival wireless carrier Sprint has also been aggressive with its devices portfolio under its prepaid brands Virgin Mobile USA as well as Boost Mobile. The Now Network is now moving some of its flagship phones from last year down to its prepaid brands and now prepaid customers will also have access to Sprint’s 4G WiMax service. Post-paid customers will be able to enjoy faster 4G LTE technology. Boost Mobile, a wholly-owned prepaid brand from Sprint, is also offering customers the option to use the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
