Vizio Android Smartphone Passes Through FCC, Headed to AT&T
Way back in January it became known that Vizio, a company best known for making affordable televisions, would be entering the smartphone and tablet market. Well, it appears that their plans are soon going to become a reality as the company’s first Android smartphone has passed through the FCC and appears headed to AT&T.
Back at CES, the company quietly showed off something called the Vizio Phone which was in the early stages of development. It appears that Vizio has made some progress since then and now that it has cleared the FCC, a release could come at any time.
The Vizio Phone actually boasts some pretty decent features. It has a 4-inch LCD screen with 854 x 480 resolution, a single-core 1GHz processor, 4GB on internal storage, and HDMI out. It also runs on GSM bands 850 and 1900 which means it’s likely going to show up on Ma Bell.
No word on what version of Android this beast is running but it’s safe to assume either Gingerbread or Froyo, likely Froyo, will be the software on board when it arrives.
If the price is right, and knowing Vizio it will be, it could definitely lure in more than a few consumers. As for a release date, look for the company to make some sort of official announcement pretty soon.
