What iPhone 7 Color to Buy: Red, Black, Jet Black, Gold, Rose Gold or Silver?

What is the best iPhone 7 color to buy? Apple just added a Red iPhone 7 to the mix, after adding two new iPhone 7 colors in fall 2016. This brings the total iPhone 7 colors to six including, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Jet Black, Black, and Product (Red.)

We’ll help you decide which iPhone 7 color option you should buy, and which iPhone 6s and iPhone SE colors you should buy as well.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are available in six color options for the first time. Apple still offers the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE in Space Gray, Gold, Rose Gold, and Silver. The new Product RED iPhone 7 is only available in 128GB and 256GB options.

The new Red, Black and Jet Black iPhone 7 colors aren’t available on previous models so you’ll need to check them out on an iPhone 7. The other colors you have likely seen, even if you are overdue for an upgrade.

While the overall iPhone 7 design looks the same, Apple now hides the antenna lines better on four of the iPhone 7 colors. There are also many upgrades to the iPhone 7 like a new force touch home button, no headphone jack, upgraded speakers and it is water resistant so you might not need a case.

In addition to the six iPhone 7 color options, there are two main front iPhone 7 color options. There is no option to customize the iPhone 7 color combinations from Apple, so this front color depends on the main color you choose.

iPhone 7 Colors Entertainment

If you plan to use the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus for watching movies and TV shows all the time, the Black and Jet Black iPhone 7 color options are the best options to consider.

Jet Black and Black iPhone 7 colors offer a black front bezel that looks great for watching content.
Jet Black and Black iPhone 7 colors offer a black front bezel that looks great for watching content.

These iPhone 7 color options are the only ones with a black front bezel. The black looks a lot like the bezel on your HDTV, which means it creates a nicer looking frame for your content. This allows you to focus on what you are watching more.

There is nothing wrong with the white iPhone 7 front color option found on Gold, Rose Gold, nd Silver when it comes to watching a movie for a number of users, but it can still prove somewhat distracting. There is a reason you don’t see white HDTVs.

iPhone 7 Colors Style

The Jet Black, Rose Gold, and Gold iPhone 7 colors are the most fashionable colors. The new red iPhone 7 is the most stand out choice.

If you want an iPhone 7 color that screams, look at me or that confirms you are using the new iPhone, you should choose Jet Black or the Product RED iPhone 7. The Jet Black iPhone 7 includes a black Apple logo to complete the stunning design and the red iPhone 7 includes a standout silver Apple logo.

Rose Gold and Jet Black are interesting fashion color choices for the iPhone 7.

Gold and Rose Gold are also a great choice that we see many users pick to use without a case or with a clear case, as it mixes well with a variety of styles and looks.

The safest choice is Silver, as it works well with a multitude of colors and looks. The silver Apple logo also reflects the colors you are wearing.

The iPhone 7 color sample below shows what the new iPhone 7 color options look like next to each other and including the front and back.

We’ve added the red iPhone 7 color below. This also uses the white front like the other fashionable colors. This is something to keep in mind if you are concerned about the color of front of the iPhone.

iPhone 7 Colors Scratches

While there was a major problem with the black iPhone 5 scratching, this is not much of an issue for the iPhone 6s. If you choose the black iPhone 7, or opt for the tired and true Gold, Silver and Rose Gold, you should be fine. Apple warns that the Jet Black iPhone 7 is more susceptible to scratches.

Apple cautions, “high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.”

We’ve used the Rose Gold iPhone 6s Plus for a year without any real scratches, and haven’t heard from users complaining about the Gold or Silver option. Space Gray is still a solid choice on the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE.

After six months of using the Jet Black iPhone 7 there are some scratches, but fingerprints are the bigger issue.

Essentially, there is no best iPhone 7 color to buy that is tougher to scratch, but if you don’t want to see scratches you should avoid the iPhone 7 Jet Black color. The light color of the silver iPhone 7 may still give it a small edge compared to the other colors.

iPhone 7 Colors Fading and Wear

One other factor to consider as you choose between iPhone 7 colors is how it will handle wear or fading.

We have not noticed any fading to the three older iPhone 7 color options as they exist on the iPhone 6s. Gold is still bright, Rose Gold as pink as ever and Silver as shiny as new. This will likely be the case with the iPhone 7 Black and Jet Black options.

A gold iphone color option can show discoloration if not cleaned regularly.

One thing that is an issue to consider is wear and discoloration. We observe some discoloration on lighter iPhone 7 color options when users leave them in a case for long periods and expose them to moisture and then heat. This can cause changes to the colors or leave a stain as seen in the image above.

If you regularly clean your iPhone 7 this shouldn’t be a problem, but if you like to buy and just use the iPhone without worrying, keep this in mind.

iPhone 7 Cases

Apple announced a collection of new iPhone 7 cases. If you plan to use the iPhone 7 in a case, you still need to decide what color looks best with that case. You will see a small portion of the iPhone 7 color show through the back and at the bottom of the case. The front iPhone 7 color is also still important.

You can see how the Apple iPhone 7 cases look above, but it is also important to factor in the number of clear iPhone 7 cases available like the option from Speck below that lets the iPhone 7 color show through.

If you use a clear iPhone 7 case, color is especially important.

You should definitely go with the rose gold option since both men and women are buying this color. You should also get a rose gold case to go with it since they look pretty slick https://goo.gl/RqbEot

Something about Jet Black exclusivity makes it more appealing although it may not be practical and may be less appealing than the matte Black. It reminds me of Gold when it first came out.
