ZTE Teases Advanced Gaming Smartphone in Less Than a Week

In under a week’s time, according to ZTE UK’s tweet, we should know more about an advanced gaming Android smartphone that will be coming from the Chinese smartphone-maker. In the past, Sony, then Sony Ericsson, had held the title for gaming-centric smartphones with its Xperia Play, and since that device was released we haven’t seen much to challenge the Xperia Play in the gaming space until now.

The teaser doesn’t give many clues, but Engadget is speculating that the device may be based on Qualcomm’s Adreno 320 graphics processor and may be tied to the Snapdragon S4 CPU.

We’ll have to wait just a bit longer before we really know what ZTE will announce. It’s unclear if the product will be making its way to the U.S. as well as the tweet originated from ZTE UK.

So far, there has been little development in the gaming space on Android despite what appears to be heavy consumer interest. Newcomer Ouya is trying to shake up the home console gaming market that’s dominated by Sony’s Playstation and Microsoft’s Xbox consoles with its own Android-based console to be priced at around $100. The startup raised nearly $3 million in a day on Kickstarter.
