HTC And Verizon Working on Fix for HTC ThunderBolt Random Reboots

Published

on

In a bit of bad news, a few days ago, it became apparent that some HTC ThunderBolt owners were dealing with random reboot issues after installing an update for the device. It looks like those cloudy skies are clearing up though as Verizon has confirmed that it and HTC are working on a solution to the problem.

HTC ThunderBolt

Verizon began rolling out an update to the HTC ThunderBolt on May 12th that brought some awesome stuff along with it including better 3G connectivity (for some people at least) among other things.

Yet, it also apparently brought along a reboot issue that is seeing ThunderBolt’s reboot at random, without provocation.

No one here at GBM with a ThunderBolt is experiencing the issue but judging from the amount of people complaining about this issue, it seems to be a little more widespread than we initially thought.

Luckily, it looks like a fix for it could be on the way as Verizon has told Android Central that it is working alongside  HTC in an attempt to figure out a solution for the issue.

Sadly, no word on how long it’s going to take for them to get something rolled out to owners experiencing this issue but let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Has anyone NOT received their OTA software update yet? I’ve called Verizon twice now, and they’re telling me I’m getting error messages because the update hasn’t been “rolled out” to me yet. Just curious if anyone else hasn’t had it sent to their phone yet.

    Thanks…

I had the same issue, couldn’t find the OTA update server or simply timed out.  They told me that “roll out” junk line too.  Ever since the 4g network went down, my phone had really begun to degrade in call quality and battery life.  It would lose both the 3g and cdma networks at random.  I brought it into a bigger VZW location and to my surprise, it lost both networks while their “tech” was looking at it, right after a reboot. They also said that it does not matter if it hasn’t been rolled out to you or not, if its available, checking the server will get you the update. They promptly sent me a new phone, and things are good once again.

Myself including several friends have had the reboot issue before and after the update. Mine doesn’t reboot as often as theirs but it does happen. They have even had theirs replaced once or twice and still have the reboot issue.

Got the update last week and no reboot problem here. I want video phone calls, Netflix and ESPN to work on my Thunderbolt. Other than that, I love this phone.

I had to set my data to 1x before I could download it. No problems with the reboot since the update. Now eagerly awaiting gingerbread

I got the same info from verizon and htc support personnel. “You will get a request to update when it time.” I do not have reboots myself without the update. I have good 4G connectivity and the data download is excellent. Battery life is as expected from all I have read. I am hoping the update helps the battery. But, I love the phone and the HTC Sense UI.

I had no issue prior to the update, but once I did, I get reboot without doing anything once or twice a day. It is very annoying.

Same here. I’m very tempted to root and install CM7.

Verizon replaced my handset, but it restarted again 4 hours after I got it. Didn’t work.

Mine was doing it too, called up the Verizon and did my 3rd factory reset since I bought it in March. The first 2 were in the first week I had it. It seems to have fixed my random rebbot issues though. Now I can reset up my phone in under a half hour anyways.
