Galaxy S3 Update Will Fix “Sudden Death” Issue

Last month, Samsung Galaxy S3 owners began to complain about a “sudden death” issue wherein devices abruptly stopped working, evidently due to a firmware bug. It now appears as though Samsung is prepared to fix the issue through an upcoming firmware update though it’s still unclear as to when the remedy might arrive.

According to Tweakers, a Dutch Samsung representative has confirmed that there is indeed a “sudden death” bug that is affecting a small amount 16GB models of the Samsung Galaxy S3. The representative went on to say that the bug, which makes the device unusable, can easily be fixed with a firmware update. The rep unfortunately did not elaborate on timing for the update’s roll out which means that owners of the 16GB Galaxy S3 will have to live in a bit of peril until Samsung is able to issue new software.

The Galaxy S3 sudden death issue will apparently be fixed with a firmware update.

The “sudden death” bug came to the surface last month after a number of Galaxy S3 users in the Android community started complaining about an issue where the Galaxy S3 would suddenly die after being left on the charger over night or simply by just turning off the display. At the time, it seemed like Samsung had an issue with the device’s motherboard though now it seems like it’s a problem that software alone can handle.

Samsung says, that despite the issues, the “sudden death” bug is only affecting a small amount of Galaxy S3 owners though it’s unclear just how many more users have seen the issue arise since it surfaced last last month. Samsung has sold over 30 million Galaxy S3 devices worldwide since the phone’s debut more than six months ago so the 16GB model is surely in the hands of millions of consumers.

It’s unclear just where the update will fall in line for Galaxy S3 owners as users in regions other than North America are currently amidst the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean roll out and are awaiting the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update from Samsung.

Samsung has yet to say when the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updates might roll out for the Galaxy S3 or any of its Galaxy devices though we imagine that the software will begin to arrive sometime in 2013. It could be that the fix for the “sudden death” issue might come before Android 4.2 arrives and with the rep saying that it will roll out as soon as possible, that could wind up being the case.

No worries…? safe to assume that peril could definitely become predicament if the update or patch or workaround isn’t released ASAP? What if our s3′s start dropping like flies? I wonder if preparations for are in place if the “Galaxy” develops a black hole? And moreover, what can we do to help?
