Wait for Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Update Continues
Today, Google rolled out the latest Android update, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, for the Nexus 10, Nexus 7 and the GSM Galaxy Nexus. The update is currently rolling out to owners of the three devices and is also available through a manual update for those that can’t wait. One device that the device is unavailable for is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, a Nexus device that remains on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with no Android 4.2 updates in sight.
All the way back in September, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus became the last Nexus device in the United States to receive it Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Since then, the device has remained on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, something that has frustrated owners of the device who at one point thought that they had bought a Nexus smartphone.
Earlier this year, Sprint rolled out Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for its Galaxy Nexus, a roll out that came months after Google pushed the update to the Nexus 7 and the GSM Galaxy Nexus. And since then, Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners have been wondering when their device might be getting the upgrade.
Today, they did not get that answer. In fact, today’s Android 4.2.2 roll out now means that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is a full four updates behind as it has missed out on the Android 4.1.2 update, the Android 4.2 update, the Android 4.2.1 update and now the Android 4.2.2 update.
Instead, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is once again the last Nexus to a major Android update, proving Andy Rubin’s words about the Verizon Galaxy Nexus’ bad experience to be true for many owners.
Unfortunately, inquiries to both Samsung and Verizon about the update’s whereabouts have proved fruitless as both companies remain mum on the timing or version of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus’ Android 4.2 update. It could be that the device receives the Android 4.2.1 update rather than Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, given the timing of the update, but again, nothing is certain.
With the release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean last year, Verizon’s roll out came a short time after Sprint’s, but given that we haven’t seen any recent leaks, Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners may be in for a bit of a wait.
