Galaxy Note Edge Release Date & U.S. Carrier Breakdown

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be joined by another new Galaxy Note dubbed Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. With a release now confirmed for this year and U.S. release details still swirling around, we want to take a look at everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date and carrier situation in the United States.

Yesterday, Samsung took the stage and announced a slew of new devices including the Galaxy Note 4, Gear VR virtual reality headset, Gear S smartwatch, and even another Galaxy Note model dubbed Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge had been rumored in the build up to the Galaxy Note 4 launch date though the device still registered as a bit of a surprise thanks to its unique features.

Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Note Edge is an odd looking device, different from the Galaxy Note 4 that launched alongside it yesterday. The Galaxy Note Edge features a something that’s extremely unique. The display is far from ordinary. Instead of your standard flat screen, the Galaxy Note Edge comes with a screen that wraps around the edge of the smartphone. The feature can be seen in action in the video below.

While the curved screen will certainly be the device’s biggest selling point, the Galaxy Note Edge comes with a number of other big time features that can stand up to the powerful Samsung Galaxy Note 4:

  • 5.6-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Display
  • 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM
  • 32 or 64GB storage options, with micro-SD support
  • Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz
  • 16 Megapixel Rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization
  • 3.7 front camera for wide-angle selfies, and panoramic front photos
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • Curved display on right side for notifications and more
  • 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3mm, 174 grams

Unsurprisingly, there is a ton of interest in Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Note Edge, just like how there’s a ton of interest in the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Problem is, we still don’t know when the Galaxy Edge release date is going to arrive. While the Galaxy Note 4 release date is confirmed for October, the Galaxy Note Edge release date is far more mysterious.

With that in mind, we want to breakdown the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date and take a look at everything we know, thus far, about its release and its release date.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Release Date

After yesterday’s launch event, with all of the pomp and circumstance, Samsung left consumers with an extremely vague Galaxy Note Edge release date. Instead of offering a specific release window like it did with the Galaxy Note 4, the company simply said that the Galaxy Note Edge will arrive globally sometime later this year.

We still haven’t seen any specifics emerge, either in rumor or from Samsung itself, so it’s looking like it could be a few days, or perhaps even a few weeks, before we start to see Galaxy Note Edge release date details roll out. There is one thing that we should point out though.

It does appear as though the Galaxy Note Edge has passed through the FCC. The filing, first noticed by Blog of Mobile, is one of the final hurdles that the Galaxy Note Edge needed to take before its public release. Now that this is out of the way, at least for this model, we’re a little bit closer to its arrival. Unfortunately, the FCC filing comes without a specific release date.

Galaxy Note Edge U.S. Release Date

Nada. That sums up what we know about the Samsung Galaxy Edge release date in the United States. Samsung isn’t saying. Carriers aren’t saying. And all we have to go on is a filing at the FCC that points to an upcoming release.

What we should point out is that Samsung clearly has the United States market in its sights. The company quickly announced a U.S. Galaxy Note 4 release date in October that falls in line with the global release of the Galaxy Note 4. What this could mean is that the Galaxy Note Edge release in the U.S. will fall in line with the global release date later this year.

This would make sense but at this point, nothing is confirmed.

AT&T Galaxy Note Edge

The AT&T Galaxy Note Edge is confirmed for arrival though the carrier has offered zilch when it comes to important details.

There is a sign up page that allows consumers to input their email in an effort to stay up to date with official information but release date, pricing and other pertinent details remain out of reach for the time being.

Sprint Galaxy Note Edge

Sprint’s Galaxy Note Edge is also confirmed though it too is mum about the important details. As far as we can tell, the Sprint Galaxy Note Edge doesn’t even have a splash page. Sprint’s Galaxy Note 4 does. That about sums up the Galaxy Note Edge release in the United States thus far. Just about everything is missing from view.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge

T-Mobile also confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge yesterday and like AT&T, it offers up a splash page where users can go and input their email so as to acquire up to date information about its release. The carrier offers nothing on the release date, pricing or anything else though it does offer something that might be interesting to consumers.

T-Mobile is offering a Galaxy Note 4 contest to those that pre-register.

T-Mobile is offering a Galaxy Note 4 contest to those that pre-register.

T-Mobile is also offering a pre-registration for the Galaxy Note Edge and those that enter will be signed up for a contest. The contest offers a number of different prizes and will last through September 11th. It’s added incentive that no other carrier is offering at the moment. We could see other contests pop up between now and the Galaxy Note Edge release.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge

U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest carrier, will release the Galaxy Note 4 in October though it’s not clear if it will carry the Galaxy Note Edge. The carrier was very specific about the fact that it would carry the Galaxy Note 4 and it did not mention anything about the other device. It hasn’t said no but it also hasn’t said yes. Stay tuned.

Verizon Galaxy Note Edge

The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date is also on the way though Verizon is mum about the specifics. Like AT&T, it says that the device will be “coming soon” though it does not say whether that entails a release in October, November or what.

Verizon is offering a sign up for those interested in the Galaxy Note Edge release date and the carrier says that those that do sign up will be first to “get product, pre-order and launch details.” So, it looks like we might see Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders at Verizon. This means that we could see Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders at other US. carriers as well.
