Galaxy Note Edge Release Date: 11 Things Buyers Need to Know

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date still isn’t set in stone but we have seen it make considerable progress since Samsung’s announcement earlier this month. Here, ahead of Samsung’s official announcement, we run down the most important things prospective buyers need to know about the upcoming Galaxy Note Edge release date.

Earlier this month, Samsung executives took the stage and announced a slew of new products including a brand new Galaxy Note 4 and a surprise Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3 and it will go on sale with a number of high-powered features starting in mid-October. The Galaxy Note Edge, a device that shares a lot in common with the Galaxy Note 4, will also deliver some explosive specs including a bent display.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge features a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a display unlike any other.

Instead of a flat display, the Galaxy Note Edge offers a bent display that drapes over the right side of its design. The feature, which provides new viewing angles, can be seen in action in the video above. It’s the Galaxy Note Edge’s biggest selling point and one reason why consumers are now interested in Samsung’s high-end Galaxy Note.

Problem is, the Galaxy Note Edge release date remains out of reach. Samsung confirmed it for arrival later this year though it neglected to offer specific details. Slowly but surely, we’ve been able to fill in a few of the blanks and here, we take a look at the most important things buyers need to know about the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States and around the world.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Making Progress

The exact Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date remains missing in action for all markets but we do know that the Galaxy Note Edge release is making progress behind the scenes.

Earlier this month, one Galaxy Note Edge variant passed through the FCC. We also recently spotted a Bluetooth certification for an international model. Now, three more Galaxy Note Edge variants have been caught getting their certifications a sign that the release date is getting closer.

Galaxy-Note-Edge-3

Three new Galaxy Note Edge Bluetooth certifications, first spotted by Blog of Mobile, do not confirm an imminent Galaxy Note Edge release but they do tell us that the international Galaxy Note Edge release is inching closer to reality. The three variants are the SM-915S, SM-N915K, and SM-N915L and it appears that they are heading to the Korean market.

The SM-N915S will supposedly come to SK Telecom, the SM-N915K to KT, and the SM-915L to LG U+. Unfortunately these Bluetooth certifications, which are necessary before a device can officially hit shelves, do not reveal any specific Galaxy Note Edge release date details. They do, however, suggest that the Korean market will be among the first.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date in “Selected Markets”

It’s still not clear exactly where the Galaxy Note Edge will be released. For instance, Samsung Canada confirmed it for arrival last week, two weeks after the initial Galaxy Note Edge launch date.

Samsung UK though makes it clear that this will not be a widespread smartphone. In a release for the Galaxy Note 4, the company says that “the Galaxy Note Edge will be released in selected markets, with UK availability to be confirmed in due course.” The key thing there is “selected markets” which to us can be interpreted as limited availability. Analysts back that theory.

Galaxy-Note-Edge-2

Recent Galaxy Note Edge release details from Yonhap News in Korea quote a Hyundai Securities analyst who claims that while Samsung plans to ship 11 million units of the Galaxy Note 4, it might only ship 1 million units of the Galaxy Note Edge. The analyst believes that the low yield is due to the manufacturing difficulties that come with the Galaxy Note Edge’s display.

So, as expected, the Galaxy Note Edge will probably be limited in scope and won’t hit hundreds of different markets like the Galaxy Note 4. At least not in the beginning.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date “Coming Soon” in U.S.

A Samsung Galaxy Note Edge sign up page for the United States though claims that the Galaxy Note Edge is “coming soon” to the U.S. It does not reveal an exact date but this is the first time since launch that we’ve seen Samsung tease the Galaxy Note Edge release for the U.S. market. It doesn’t mean that a Galaxy Note Edge release will happen tomorrow but it’s a good sign nonetheless.

One other thing of note. The drop down menu lists five carriers instead of four. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon are all listed in the drop down box. Of these, U.S. Cellular is the only one that has yet to announce the Galaxy Note Edge for arrival. U.S. Cellular did announce the Galaxy Note 4 but it did not announce the Galaxy Note Edge.

We wouldn’t get too excited. We’ve seen drop down menus on sign up pages list all sorts of carriers in the past. This is not a confirmation for a U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date in 2015

Yesterday, Samsung unexpectedly revealed some new Galaxy Note Edge release date information.

It appears that Samsung is planning a Canadian Galaxy Note Edge release date in 2015 though the company did not outline specific details. It did, however, mention that the country would be behind the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date. It’s not clear what that means for the U.S. though it does confirm a release date ahead of the Canadian release.

galaxy note edge

This is actually big news for Canada. Samsung did not confirm the region for launch on September 3rd but it looks like our neighbors to the north are going to be getting the Galaxy Note Edge at some point down the road.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Delay

Canada won’t be the only region facing a delay.

UK retailer Clove recently passed along some new Galaxy Note Edge details and they aren’t pretty. The retailer claims that the Galaxy Note Edge will not be available in the United Kingdom right off the bat, information that is says comes from its distribution channels:

When the Note Edge launches, there will not be UK stock available. It will not be available in the majority of European countries.

For those customers that are interested in purchasing the Note Edge, we will look to source non-UK stock. This means that, if possible, we will purchase the stock intended for one of the countries where the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is due to launch.

It’s still not clear what other countries might be included but what is clear is that Galaxy Note Edge release problems have already begun ahead of an official announcement. And that’s not good for consumers looking to pick up a new flagship smartphone during the fall and the holiday shopping months.

Furthermore, the retailer says that it still doesn’t know how much the Galaxy Note Edge will cost.

Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders

While it doesn’t have a price, Clove UK is taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note Edge. So are a handful of other retailers including Amazon and a Dutch retailer called Notebooksbilliger. Amazon and Notebooksbilliger are both charging a small fortune for the Galaxy Note Edge and we highly suggest avoiding them until we get some official details.

Galaxy Note Edge Price

Amazon Germany is charging nearly €1000 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Same goes for Dutch retailer Notebooksbilliger. By comparison, the Galaxy Note 4 looks like it will cost around €699.

While that steep price might not stick, we continue to see Galaxy Note Edge release details point in that direction. A Weibo post from an alleged China Mobile employee suggests that the Galaxy Note Edge price could be expensive in China as well.

Galaxy-Note-Edge-1

That post, first discovered by G for Games, indicates that China Mobile could charge 7,000 Yuan for the Galaxy Note Edge. That translates to about $1,139. Last year’s Galaxy Note 3 was 5,399 yuan and the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to command a price around 5,100 Yuan or around $830. That’s about $150 more than the Galaxy Note 3′s off-contract price in the United States.

At the beginning of the year, Samsung said that the Galaxy Note Edge would be aimed at the high-end and it appears that the company will be sticking to its word. We still don’t know how much it will cost in the U.S. but with a Galaxy Note 4 price confirmed for $299.99, it looks like the Galaxy Note Edge and its bent display will be extremely expensive.

Galaxy Note Edge: Where to Buy (U.S.)

The Galaxy Note Edge sign up page for the U.S. reveals some new details about where to buy the new Galaxy Note.

The Galaxy Note Edge will apparently be sold in several retail locations. Best Buy, Target, Sam’s Club, RadioShack, Amazon, Walmart, and Costco will evidently be stocking this high-end Galaxy Note Edge when it arrives. These should all come in addition to carrier stores that should stock the Galaxy Note Edge on day one.

Galaxy Note 4 Release Date Confirmed

Prospective Galaxy Note 4 users need to know that the Galaxy Note 4 release date in the U.S. is confirmed for October 17th. It’s also confirmed for October 10th in the United Kingdom.

Note-4-Design

We’re not sure if the Galaxy Note 4 will beat the Galaxy Note Edge to launch though given that we now have concrete information, there’s a very good chance that the Galaxy Note 4 will arrive first.

iPhone 6 Plus Out Now

Galaxy Note Edge buyers would also be wise to check out the new iPhone 6 Plus from Apple. Apple’s new 5.5-inch iPhone 6 hit shelves on Friday and while it’s still difficult to find, consumers that want a big screen smartphone would be wise to go hands on with it before the Galaxy Note Edge release.

Galaxy Note 3 Deals

And finally, it’s probably worth checking out last year’s Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note 3. It’s a Galaxy Note and it’s now extremely cheap thru retailers and carriers. It’s looking like it’ll be hundreds of dollars cheaper than the Galaxy Note Edge so if you don’t need the curved screen or the other features, it’s probably worth a look.

Wow. Another poorly written, “let’s just keep saying the phone name so we rank higher on search” article with little to no new information. I have forever blocked your crap website. Higher someone who actually knows how to write a article and who has something news worthy to write about. This site is crap.

I could not agree more. Everyone one of their articles sound the same and just repeat the phone name. Difficult to read. Tomorrow we will see a new article basically spewing out the same shit with no new information at all. Also, I think the guy who writes these articles has maybe a 6th grade education. Trying to use big words when simple words work better. Please continue to tell us absolutely nothing new each day as things “cruise” through the FCC. Bunch of lazy hacks run this site.

The funny thing here is the fact that the first two commenters complained about the author’s writing ability, yet proved themselves to be just as bad at it (or at least at checking autocorrect). I’m not sure whether to call it irony or hypocrisy. I do, however, agree that these posts are getting to be nothing more than repetition of key words in order to attract search engines.
