7 Nexus 6 Features You’ll Love

The Nexus 6 is packed full of features that will give you phone envy, and maybe even convince you to trade in your old smartphone for a new Nexus 6 even with the higher than expected price.

Google announced the Nexus 6 today which will arrive with Android 5.0 on board. The new version of Android Lollipop packs in some of the exciting new features and while they will eventually trickle down to other Android devices you’ll need a Nexus for early access.

Motorola designed the Nexus 6, which looks a lot like the Moto X 2014 update, but it includes new features that buyers will enjoy right out of the box.

Here are the Nexus 6 features you'll love.

The Nexus 6 release date is November 12th on T-Mobile and it is also coming to other carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular. The off contract Nexus 6 price is $649 for the 64GB Nexus 6, leaving hope for a slightly cheaper 32GB Nexus 6 from the Google Play Store and other retailers.

Here’s a look at the most exciting Nexus 6 Features.

Quad HD Display

The Nexus 6 features a large Quad HD display. You may also know this as a 2k display like on the Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3. Google rounds the 5.96-inch display up to 6-inches in marketing but there is no rounding up needed for the 2,560 x 1,440 resolution that packs 493 pixels per inch.

With more pixels packed in per inch and a larger display, users will find the Nexus 6 display is able to show more details in photos and in high-definition content. The larger screen is also better suited for watching movies, TV shows and sports.

Fast Charging & Battery Saver

There is a large 3,220 mAh battery in the Nexus 6 and Google includes a Turbo Charger that can charge six hours of battery life in 15 minutes of charging time.

Android 5.0 also includes a battery saver mode that can add an extra 90 minutes of use to the Nexus 6 when you need more power to get through a day.

Optical Image Stabilization

The 13MP rear-facing camera includes Optical Image Stabilization. This doesn’t magically make you take better photos, but it helps remove the blurriness in photos of still objects that you take in low light.

If you like to take landscapes and other photos in low light without moving subjects you should see improved results. This can’t remove the blur you see from pets and babies who never seem to sit still for the shutter.

Smart Software

The Android 5.0 Lollipop release brings a new look to Android devices including the Nexus 6. The Material Design adds smart notifications that you can reply to or ignore without leaving your screen and a facelift to the overall look of Android that users will appreciate.

There is also new Anti-Theft Protection that requires a password to reset a phone. This should help cut down on the resale of stolen phones and possibly remove some of the appeal of stealing smartphones.

Google also adds Multiple Profiles, which lets users include separate profiles on the Nexus 6. This means you can have your apps and access and then switch to a child profile when you hand off to your kid.

Trusted Bluetooth also lets users keep the Nexus 6 unlocked when it is connected to a device like Android Wear, a car or Bluetooth headset so you don’t need to constantly enter your information.

Front Facing Speakers

The Nexus 6 borrows the front facing speakers from the Moto X 2014 that we enjoy using. This is better than down facing or rear facing speakers as they push the sound right at the user so it is possible to watch movies and YouTube videos without constantly cupping your hand around the back.

Front facing speakers and a big screen are essential for videos on a smartphone.

Water-Resistant

The Nexus 6 is water-resistant so you don’t need to be afraid of using it near water. There is no specific IP67 rating like we see on the Galaxy S5, so you shouldn’t drop it in water on purpose, but if it does happen to fall into water there is a good chance it won’t break.

Wireless Charging

Like the many Nexus smartphones before it the Nexus 6 includes wireless charging. The Qi wireless charging allows users to set the Nexus 6 on a Qi charger to top off the battery without fumbling with a cord. This doesn’t support the fast charging option, but it’s an incredibly handy feature.

I see nothing here of any real significance from a phablet standpoint. The Galaxy Note products are the perfect all purpose handset on the market bare none.

The Nexus 6 is nothing more than a big screened smartphone with NO PURPOSE or true multitasking/productivity abilities that’s a waste of time in my book.
