Don't Upgrade From a 2018 iMac

Did you buy the 2018 iMac when it first came out? Or are you using a high spec'd 2017 iMac? If so, you may not need to upgrade to the 2019 iMac unless you are a power user, and in that case you probably already hit the buy button.

Yes, this new model is up to two times faster, but that is when it comes to handling heavy duty tasks and using intense programs. That doesn't mean browsing the web and using Excel will be twice as fast as your 2018 iMac.

Don't spend the extra cash to upgrade if you are using a relatively new iMac and you aren't going to work on 3D content and push the system for work every day.

If you plan to do that kind of work later, after college for example, hold off until closer until you need the power to upgrade.

They should wait until the next WDC in early June to see if there are any announcements about the upgradeable Mac Pro or the next generation of Mac computers powered by new Apple chips — replacing intel chips. It’s not that far away. Why spend a lot of money on computers that may already be soon obsolete when new more powerful Macs are around the corner — possibly with new technology to complement the upcoming AR glasses. This is the worst time to buy a new Mac. Apple is about to make a large pivot away from it’s current architecture. Wait if you can. At the least, the existing Macs will be cheaper.
