The Galaxy Note Edge Release Date: Everything We Know

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is still missing action but that doesn’t mean that the release isn’t getting any closer. In fact, we’ve seen a number of new details emerge in the last week and a half, details that have started to paint a broad picture of the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date.

Last week, Samsung confirmed the brand new Galaxy Note Edge alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. On stage, Samsung confirmed many of the key Galaxy Note Edge details including its specs but the company failed to confirm many of the important specifics including the Galaxy Note Edge price and the specific Galaxy Note Edge release date.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is an intriguing device. Not only does it share features with the Galaxy Note 4, it comes with one of the most interesting smartphone screens that we’ve ever seen. Instead of a flat display, the Galaxy Note Edge offers a bent display that drapes over the right side of its design. The feature, which provides new viewing angles, can be seen in action in the video below.

This is going to be its biggest selling point though it comes equipped with some other likeable features as well, many of which are found on the company’s other flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge also includes a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16 Megapixel Rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It’s a device that’s worth looking at going forward as we push toward the fall the arrival of key devices like the Moto X and Apple’s brand new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Problem is, Samsung still hasn’t provided any specific information about its release date. Fortunately, in the days since its announcement, we’ve seen some new details emerge and here, we want to take a look at everything we know so far about the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States and around the world.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Making Progress

From what we can tell, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release is still set for later this year though no specific release details have been released by Samsung or its carrier partners around the world. Fortunately, we have seen some movement out of the Galaxy Note Edge release thanks to the certification bodies that must approve it ahead of its arrival.

Earlier this month, one Galaxy Note Edge variant passed through the FCC. Then, earlier this week, we saw the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release clear another hurdle, a sign that the release is making solid progress.

The Galaxy Note Edge, model number SM-N915G, was spotted passing through a Bluetooth certification. The certification, first noticed by Blog of Mobile, does not confirm an imminent release but it does show that the international Galaxy Note Edge release is inching closer to reality. Sadly, as we’ve pointed out, this is only the second Galaxy Note Edge certification that we’ve seen emerge in the days since Samsung’s announcement.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 release, on the other hand, has passed several FCC and Bluetooth certs ahead of its release. And with a Galaxy Note 4 release solidly confirmed for October, it’s looking like the Galaxy Note 4 release will come before the Galaxy Note Edge release date.

Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders

We have also seen the start of Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders though they aren’t exactly appealing. Early Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders have begun in Germany alongside Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders. Several Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders have been spotted including pre-orders at Amazon, MediaMarkt, Notebooksbilliger, and redcon.

And while the Galaxy Note 4 costs around €600, Amazon is charging nearly €1000 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Same goes for Notebooksbilliger. Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge is expected to be more expensive than the Galaxy Note 4 but it’s still not clear how of a gap we’ll see. We base this on the curved display which almost certainly costs more to manufacturer. Samsung still hasn’t announced the official price.

We still haven’t seen it go up for pre-order anywhere else though Verizon seems to hint at pre-orders on its Galaxy Note Edge sign up page. These aren’t confirmed quite yet but we could see Verizon step up and confirm details in the weeks ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge release.

Android smartphones typically go up for pre-order in the United States and around the world ahead of release and we don’t see why this phone, a niche phone, would be any different.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Problems

In the buildup to the Galaxy Note Edge release, we’ve heard that while the Galaxy Note 4 will be mass produced, the Galaxy Note Edge won’t be. The latest details come from Yonhap News in Korea. The publication notes that a Hyundai Securities analyst believes that while Samsung plans to ship 11 million units of the Galaxy Note 4, it might only ship 1 million units of the Galaxy Note Edge. The analyst believes that the low yield is due to the manufacturing difficulties that come with the Galaxy Note Edge’s display.

One million units is not a lot and it could mean that we see supply issues hit the United States and other countries if there proves to be a ton of demand for this intriguing phone. With an iPhone 6 now out, a Moto X on the way, and the Galaxy Note 4 release set for October, it could be that one million units will be enough to satisfy demand.

Galaxy Note Edge Hands-On

Finally, if you live in Japan, you’ll be able to go hands-on with the Galaxy Note Edge in select Samsung stores starting September 18th. Samsung is kicking off an exhibition ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge release date that will give consumers some hands-on time with the new Galaxy Note. The company’s new Gear S smartwatch will also be a part of the festivities.

Unfortunately, nothing has been announced for other markets and it’s not clear if the Galaxy Note Edge will follow in the Galaxy Note 4’s footsteps here in the United States. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 was available to try out at select retail locations earlier this month.

This exhibition is a good sign for all prospective Galaxy Note Edge buyers though. It appears that Samsung wants to keep consumers engaged ahead of its release and given that it’s comfortable showing it off in public, there’s a very good chance that we won’t see any delays strike the Galaxy Note Edge later on this year.

Look for Galaxy Note Edge release details to trickle out over the next few weeks as carriers and Samsung make final preparations.
