Galaxy Note Edge Release Details Trickling Out

Alleged Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release details continue to trickle out ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge release date that’s set to take place sometime later this year.

Back on September 3rd, Samsung took the stage at its Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 launch event and introduced several new products including an Apple Watch competitor called Gear S, an iPhone 6 Plus competitor called Galaxy Note 4, and a device unlike any other that’s calling Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge is the company’s new high-end version of the Galaxy Note that comes with a screen unlike anything Samsung has ever put on a Galaxy smartphone.

On stage, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge specs but it failed to confirmed many of the device’s other key features including the Galaxy Note Edge price and the Galaxy Note Edge release date. Both of those details remain a mystery even though the Galaxy Note Edge release date is confirmed for later this year.

Despite the lack of official information, we’ve started to see Galaxy Note Edge release details trickle out. Earlier this month, one Galaxy Note Edge variant passed through the FCC. We also recently spotted a Bluetooth certification for an international model and earlier this week we told you about several Korea-bound Galaxy Note Edge variants that passed their Bluetooth certifications.

UK retailer Clove recently passed along some new Galaxy Note Edge details concerning the device’s upcoming release date in the United Kingdom. The retailer claims that the Galaxy Note Edge will not be available in the United Kingdom right off the bat and that the delay will probably impact other nations in Europe as well. Here’s what they said earlier this week:

When the Note Edge launches, there will not be UK stock available. It will not be available in the majority of European countries.

For those customers that are interested in purchasing the Note Edge, we will look to source non-UK stock. This means that, if possible, we will purchase the stock intended for one of the countries where the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is due to launch.

In addition to the Galaxy Note Edge release date woes, we continue to hear about the Galaxy Note Edge price, a key component of its upcoming release. Amazon Germany is charging nearly €1000 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Same goes for Dutch retailer Notebooksbilliger. By comparison, the Galaxy Note 4 looks like it will cost €699.

While that steep price might not stick, we continue to see Galaxy Note Edge release details point in that direction. A Weibo post from an alleged China Mobile employee suggests that the Galaxy Note Edge price could be expensive in China as well.

The post, first discovered by G for Games, indicates that China Mobile could charge 7,000 Yuan for the Galaxy Note Edge. That translates to about $1,139. Last year’s Galaxy Note 3 was 5,399 yuan and the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to command a price around 5,100 Yuan or around $830. That’s about $150 more than the Galaxy Note 3’s off-contract price in the United States.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge price, of course, remains unconfirmed but signs continue to point to an expensive smartphone, even for emerging markets like China. At the beginning of the year, Samsung said that the Galaxy Note Edge would be aimed at the high-end and it appears that the company will be sticking to its word.

In addition to the bent display, Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge also includes a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16 Megapixel Rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame.

These features help to put it on par with the Galaxy Note 4 and it’s a device that consumers have their eyes on as we enter the fall.
