Galaxy Note 4 Release Arrives Amid Bad News for Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date is 10 days away in the U.S. and Samsung just announced bad news that may change how the company markets the Galaxy Note 4 and possibly the number of Galaxy Note 4 deals we see in the coming months.

Two things you can count on from a Samsung release are deals and big advertising blitzes. We’re already seeing Galaxy Note 4 ads on TV and across the web as the company looks to take on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with witty and memorable advertising online and attack ads on TV.

As the Galaxy Note 4 release date draws close in the U.S. Samsung announced earnings guidance for Q3 2014, warning investors to expect a major drop in operating profit.

The news comes after a relatively successful Galaxy S5 launch early this year and right as Samsung prepares to go after the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with the Galaxy Note 4 release and the Galaxy Alpha.

Increased competition from the the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are part of the problem, offering bigger screens that come close to matching the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 in size, but they aren’t the only reason Samsung is looking at a potential 60% drop in operating profits from last year. In the report Samsung cites “intense competition,” and while it doesn’t name names, there is more than Apple at play here.

In addition to the new iPhone 6, more affordable devices like the Moto X 2014 and the metal HTC One M8 offer more choice to consumers looking for a great Android phone in 2014, which takes away from easy sales in the Galaxy S5 and the upcoming Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung also notes, “marketing expenses related to aggressive promotions,” played a role in the decline in operating profit. Ahead of the iPhone 6 release and even before the Galaxy Note 4 announcement Samsung started running ads attacking the iPhone battery life and in the last several weeks online, print and TV ads for the Galaxy Note 4 appeared fast and furious.

Samsung also blamed a lack in shipments of high-end smartphones and a lower average selling price for the bad news. This lines up with the slew of [easyazon_link asin=”B00F2SDM00″ locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”gbm-ea-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Galaxy Note 3 deals[/easyazon_link] that arrived over the past several months chopping the price down to $99 today. It doesn’t help that Galaxy S5 deals also drop the price to $0 on contract on a regular basis and even carriers cut $100 off the price of the phone soon after release.

Samsung looks to the Galaxy Note 4 release to deliver an improvement for the ,rest of the year, telling investors they, “cautiously expects increased shipments of new smartphones,” and strong demand for HDTVs this holiday shopping season.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release arrives at a key time for Samsung, and with advertising already in full swing it’s unclear if we’ll see the practice of big deals on top Android phones continue. With increased competition from the iPhone 6 Plus Samsung may not be able to avoid offering Galaxy Note 4 deals to lure consumers in.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 arrives on AT&TVerizonT-Mobile and Sprint with a $299 on contract price, which [easyazon_link asin=”B00N532FRU” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”gbm-ea-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Amazon is not yet discounting[/easyazon_link]. The new Galaxy Note 4 features a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, metal frame, soft touch back and the S Pen. Users can remove the back for access to a Micro SD card and removable battery.
