U.S. Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Nears Finish Line

The U.S. Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date is finally nearing the finish line as one missing carrier has announced a specific Galaxy Note Edge release date and price and another appears poised to deliver the same details in the near future.

Back in September, Samsung announced two versions of the Galaxy Note 4, a regular Galaxy Note 4 and a curved version of the device dubbed Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge went on sale in the United States for AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile at the tail end of last year though two confirmed carriers, U.S. Cellular and Verizon, failed to announce Galaxy Note Edge release details.

With the new year now here, we’re finally starting to see the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date push towards its completion. Over the weekend, a Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date rumor emerged hinting at an imminent Galaxy Note Edge release date. Today, rival U.S. Cellular confirmed its Galaxy Note Edge release date and price and unsurprisingly, the nation’s fifth largest carrier plans to release the phone this week.

The U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge release date is confirmed for January 7th, or, two days from now. On January 7th, the Galaxy Note Edge will emerge online and in U.S. Cellular stores. As expected, U.S. Cellular will charge $399.99 on-contract for the rights to the Galaxy Note Edge, a price that falls in line with AT&T’s on-contract price point. The carrier also notes that “qualified customers will be able to add it to their Shared Connect plan and get it for $0 down using U.S. Cellular’s equipment installment option.”

The carrier will offer the Galaxy Note Edge in black. A white model does not appear to be on the horizon. T-Mobile and Sprint only offer the black Galaxy Note Edge while AT&T offers the device in both black and white.

A recent leak suggests that the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date could be January 8th, or, a day after U.S. Cellular’s Galaxy Note Edge release date. That date is not confirmed, it comes from an alleged internal document, which means that the date will remain rumored until Verizon confirms it as the device’s arrival date.

The document did not out any Verizon Galaxy Note Edge price though the device is expected to command a price tag similar to the $399.99 on-contract price tag that U.S. Cellular and AT&T are using for the curved flagship. Sprint charges $450 on-contract for the rights to the curved version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 though it typically charges more on-contract for flagships.

The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge product page used to list the device in two colors, white and black. Now, the device is only listed in black which hints at a limited release for Verizon Galaxy Note Edge buyers. Verizon is one of the nation’s top carriers but it looks like Samsung could offer the white as an exclusive to close partner AT&T.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and one that’s intriguing given the unique and powerful specifications that it has on board. The Galaxy Note Edge specs include a curved Quad HD resolution display, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

The Galaxy Note Edge is all but confirmed to be getting Google’s new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system in the coming weeks though a specific date hasn’t been nailed down. The upgrade will deliver a new look to the device’s software and bring a number of enhancements to Samsung’s curved device including new looks to Samsung’s core applications.
