Those of you who used iOS 15 might remember there wasn't a way to add a permanent battery percentage indicator to your iPhone's status bar. Well, iOS 16 solved that.

There's now a way to permanently add your iPhone current battery level to your status bar.

That said, prior to the release of iOS 16.1, the battery icon appeared full, even when your iPhone's battery was draining. A weird oversight, but one that Apple's fixed.

With iOS 16.1 or newer on board your iPhone, the battery icon will deplete and the number will go down giving you an accurate look at your device's remaining battery life.
