Wait for Powerful Cameras
The 2018 iPhones come with Apple's best cameras, but if the upgrades aren't enough you'll want to think about waiting for the potential change coming with the 2019 iPhones.
2019 iPhone rumors have repeatedly pointed to a new camera setup. Specifically, they've hinted at a triple-lens rear camera system complete with advanced 3D sensing (for use with Augmented Reality) and stereoscopic imaging.
Adding a third lens would let Apple deliver 3X Optical Zoom on an iPhone for the very first time. This would allow users to magnify the subject in the camera's viewfinder up to three times without experiencing blurriness.
A report from Bloomberg states that the larger iPhone, presumably the iPhone XS Max's successor, will have a three-camera setup. The publication now says the iPhone XS' successor and the iPhone XS Max's successor will have a triple-lens rear camera.
Another report from Japanese blog Mac Otakara backs this report up though it says this setup could land on the 2019 iPhone XS and XS Max. The report claims at least one 2019 iPhone will have a square bump like Huawei's Mate 20 Pro.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the iPhone XS Max successor will be the only model with a triple-lens camera setup.
2019 iPhone renders from OnLeaks and Indian site CompareRaja showcase what this might look like.
The renders feature a smaller notch for the device's front-facing camera and TrueDepth camera system to go along with a triple-lens camera located in the back-center of the device. Mac Otakara's own renders fall in line with these.
The 2019 iPhone's rear chassis has apparently leaked out and it also shows markings that look like housing for a triple camera setup.
Supposed 2019 iPhone moldings, via Slashleaks by way of Weibo, showcase what this might look like in real life.
Apple reportedly hasn't finalized how it will implement the new camera into the iPhone's design which is why we've seen multiple versions of the design in the early going
There's no guarantee all of this happens, but it's clear Apple is betting on Augmented Reality (the company launched ARKit 2.0 with iOS 12) so the rumors are extremely credible.
If you're into AR games and apps or you simply aren't wow'd by the changes Apple made in 2018, think about waiting for the 2019 iPhones.
If Apple does plan to make these changes we should hear a lot more about it in the weeks ahead.
