Don't Wait for a Port-Less iPhone 13

If you already use wireless charging or if you hate dealing with cords, Apple might be cooking up a new port-less iPhone. Unfortunately, it probably won't come out in 2021.

Last year, leaker Jon Prosser said Apple would release an iPhone without Lightning, or USB-C, later this year.

Prosser reiterated this stance in a new video. He continues to claim that Apple will release one port-less iPhone in 2021.

It's unclear which model would go port-less and which iPhone 13 models would continue to use the company's Lightning standard.

Given that Apple will reportedly keep the same lineup as this year with iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max models in the works, the rumor is a bit odd. But Prosser does have a decent track record and he isn't the only source hinting at this change.

LeaksApplePro says the iPhone 13 won't have any ports and will instead charge via MagSafe or SmartConnector.

There are some potential hurdles. For example, if an iPhone stops working, users need to restore the device’s firmware using a Mac or Windows PC. That could change down the road.

iOS 13.4 beta testers found a new feature called “OS Recovery” which looks like it could provide iPhone users with a new way to restore their device without having to connect it to a computer.

Initially Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple would release a port-less design in 2021, but a new note suggests this won't happen

This doesn't rule a port-less 2021 iPhone out, but Kuo has a great track record. So at this point we'd temper expectations and assume a port-less iPhone won't be out in 2021.
