5 Reasons to Wait for the iPad Air 4 & 3 Reasons Not To

Wait for a Better Rear Camera

We haven't heard any rumors yet, but there's a chance Apple makes some upgrades to the iPad Air's cameras.

The iPad Air 3's camera setup is decent, but nothing to write home about. While it arrived with an upgraded 7-megapixel front-facing camera, Apple didn't make any notable changes to the rear camera.

The current iPad Air sports an aging 8 MP f/2.4 that shoots 1080p. It felt ancient in 2019 and still does in 2020, especially when you consider the camera upgrades Apple tacked onto the new iPad Pros.

So given the strides Apple's made in 2020, and the fact that the iPad Air's current setup leaves something to be desired, we think we could see some upgrades on the next version.

Apple is developing new Augmented Reality (AR) features and they will debut on board the company's iPadOS 14 operating system later this year.

The company's clearly making a huge push into the AR space so it's possible we see it bring these experiences to the iPad Air line down the road.

Of course it's also possible the company makes modest changes to the iPad Air 4's cameras in an effort to keep the cost down.

Either way, we'd expect some upgrades given how little changed last time.
